Well he invented the C programming language and was a major developer of UNIX.

The internet pretty much runs on UNIX or UNIX-like operating systems (BSD, Linux, or unix-like OSes that run on the big routers and switches, supercomputers, etc), most modern languages are based on C, totjo like most websites runs on apache (written in C), php (implemented in C), mySQL (written in C and C++)... The list is long. His contribution to our modern way of life is incalculable.

The man is the american equivalent of Alan Turing. Not a nobody like Steve Jobs.

I had to look up Touring as well...
