In a pickle i am...

alright you Jedi! I'm enlisting you for a short term. I need some help and some collective brainstorming from ya'll.

I am attempting a $10K scholarship called the Better Hour Project. What i have to do is create and execute a project that betters the community. This can be local or bigger i guess it just depends on how impressive and ambitious you wanna be. So i would like your guy's help in thinking up a project....and i like grandscale kinda shin-digs.

It MUST be under one of these 10 categories:

-human rights
-literacy improvement
-universal education
-the arts
-help build talents and gifts
-science
-health care
-prisoner re-habilitation and re-entry
-philanthropy
-faith leadership

So any ideas to better society that falls into those categories that you think a senior in HS could pull off, with the help of other of course, would be greatly appreciated.

What are the other stipulations? Is this something that is all \"out of pocket\"? Do you have help? Do you have a timeline? What other assets are available as far as space and material/materiel?

I may be able to come up with some better ideas soon, but just some right now off the top of my head. So, these might not be the best ideas, but its a start.

Health Care:
A lot of people have a difficult time understanding the laws around Medi-care and health-care. Perhaps a project whereyou help people figure it out and fill out the forms, a free advice clinic.

Help Build talents and gifts:
If possible perhaps help set up a system that would allow young people with talent to get all of the info and contacts they need to be discovered and move ahead and have questions answered. A website perhaps?

well my dad and myself had an idea of how to help prisoners be re-habilitated. We thought that considering the amount of land that prison have access to and the amount of man power that maybe they should have the walls expanded or something and start to have them farm, i mean, it would supply the prisons at the very least and if they make enough, it would help supply the country and if it goes even further we might start to be able to supply foreign coutries which would make our nation richer as a whole. we put so much money into prison, if we had the resources to put towards this (which i don't know for a fact whether we do or not) it would help with our economy as a whole and help to rehabilitate prisoners. so there it is, i hope this helped, i have another idea if you want to hear it too.

everything for this project needs to be done and reported by March 8th 2008. I have whatever funds and materials i can get.

Personally, I would suggest an educational and empowerment seminar for battered and abused spouses and children.

You could invite keynote speakers, have a nice dinner, and provide some BADLY needed tools for those who have been victimized by others.

To ME, this would provide a service that is sorely needed amongst today's society. I say spouses because men AND women both are made victims.

Resourrces available are local shelters and their directors, the YWCA, American Red Cross, and Community Mental Health Clinics.

Something else that could benefit your area in particular is a seminar similar to what Keyan stated, only for victims of the fires. Maybe bring in some Fema specialists and Fire Inspectors, people who can inform people what steps they could take to prevent becoming a victim in the future, and maybe how they can help out fighting the fires on a small or community scale. Just an Idea.
