Jediism - Where does it belong?

I think this can only be answered by each individual. Forget that you're a Jedi. What are you good for, how could you help? The way I look at it, being a Jedi doesn't make you any more helpful than anyone else (you may gain more wisdom in the long run, which is helpful, but that's not really what you're asking about). I try to make a point to be helpful however I can in various situations, such as learning CPR (which can save lives) or how to offer counsel or calm people down, talk through their problems, etc. There are plenty of things we can do as individuals that doesn't necessarily involve emergency situations too, such as doing our part for the environment (recycling, picking up trash, planting trees), or volunteering our time to help others (community service work is an obvious choice). From my point of view, being a Jedi pushes me to want to do these things, pushes me to want to be helpful. It doesn't make anyone helpful, but it should make you want to be helpful, and sometimes that's enough; just wanting to help and being there to help. So, what are we good for? We're just people, after all. But I think the fact that we want to be helpful is what will make us helpful, in the end.

Today it is on the news that a few historians risked their lives in Mali by saving ancient writings from the librabry of Timbuktu before the islamic rebels could destroy them. They smuggled boxes full of ancient books through the war-torn country.

That's inspiring. And it emphazises another aspect of the fictional Jedi also the real ones should have if they want to call themselves "Jedi". They are willing to risk something for the greater good. That shows real commitment.
