cat question was created by
this started as a journal entry/update thing and veered off course somewhat into an advice type thing, so i thought i would repost it here in a non journal area to get some input.

its been a while since i wrote one of these. so much has occurred that of course i dont remember it all, and i dont keep a journal or anything like that on purpose. not because 'the unexamined life is not worth reading' or something like that, but i just dont want to get bogged down with the details, reread the thing all the time. 'the best laid plans do not survive first contact with the enemy', with the enemy here being life itself.

so this will be kinda short and kinda stream of consciousness, cuz i am hella tired and the boy just went to bed. my girlfried alison's cat is nocturnal. that is my current worst problem. everynight around the midnight to 2 or 3 am time frame, she starts high pitched caterwauling for about half an hour, usually accompanied by scratching around her litterbox for the same length of time, which is in the bathroom, about 20 feet from me. ali sleeps just fine through this, not only because she is a sound sleeper in any case, but she has had a cat or cats since she was 4 years old. and in one case, the same cat. prissy, who lives at her parents house, is 20 years old this year, the freakin yoda of cats. so she is used to this.

i am not.

i have tried earplugs, playing with the cat more to tire her out, closing the bedroom door (she pitches a fit until i let her in, cuz it doesnt wake up ali). im at my wits end.

help me, fellow jedi, you're my only hope. what can i do to sleep through nienke's midnight meowing frenzy?

I have 4 cats and 2 dogs. All the cats have their own personalities and quirks. I would recommend a fan. Like a box fan. I have used one every night to sleep for years. The sound of the fan helps drown out most other sounds, plus I find it soothing. It's probably not for everyone though. :)

incidentally, she is a 5 year old himalayan, a very pretty kitty. like a long haired siamese.

here she is sitting on my head, and laying on the bed, respectively.

Has she been fixed? Because it sounds like typical mating behavior...when females go into heat they become ungodly annoying between rubbing between your legs as you walk and the noise...males will make a similar annoying sound if they smell the female...then there is the spraying....

*giggles* I think your cat has been reading these posts, my friend. That look as she sits right next to your head... It makes me think she's considering doing something absolutely vile to you the next time you fall asleep before she does.

I'm with Ryujin. Has she been spayed? Because if not, she may be going into heat.
