Jedi politics?
I require a bit of community input. At some point in my life I would really like to start a career in politics, whether it be local or national I don't know. But it is something I feel passionate about and I think it is one of the best ways I can make a change on a scale larger than my immediate surroundings. Ideally though I'd like some of your thoughts on a few subjects:
*Are there any current Jedi politicians?
*Should a Jedi involve himself in such matters?
*What kind of political stance should a jedi take? Totally left wing or a fair balance in the centre?
*Should a Jedi join a political party or stand independently?
*Personal ideas of your own?
Any input would greatly be appreciated

Why not? If it is for the betterment of all things...

I think individual, of the Jedi Party would be best...
*Personal ideas of your own?
If it is not you, it will be someone... It is just a matter of time...

On a different note though, is this video serious? Did the guy actually get into office?
He was pretty funny to be fair lol.

I am involved in politics, tho not in the way you are asking about. I started a political action committee a while ago committed to overturning Citizens United, the supreme court decision allowing unlimited funding via PACs in the election process. it got a lot of press as contentious and counterintutive.
should a Jedi involve himself? i think NOBODY should. i am a big believer in direct democracy and the removal all the current tools we have in office. i mean, the current congressional approval rate is in single digits. NOBODY likes those losers.
i would suggest fair and balanced to the center to appeal to more voters. just my opinion tho.
you will almost certainly not win as an independent, unless you already are some sort of celebrity with high name recognition. so pick your poison.
i have a few personal ideas of my own, but you wont like them.

Not that I know of, at the moment. With that being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being the first! Some people seem to resist changes, and prevent "new" types of people from entering areas where they originally had no business in. (Asians voting for the first time, the first black president, first Hawaiian Governor, etc.) You should stand up against the people who tell you that you can't do it and actually do it.
*Should a Jedi involve himself in such matters?
It's really up to you, in my opinion. Really, I don't think "whether I should become a politician or not" is a "Jedi Question" at all. Remember, beyond the status, fame, fortune, and criticism, it's just a job. And we all have to work. Jedi or not. In other words, I don't think this matter is a religious one and, as such, no need to get any type of approval from the force or from your Jedi peers.

Again, this is really up to you and your personal positions in politics. Do YOU have strong beliefs towards Democrat or Republican principles?
(Sorry if you know this already, I mean no offense - I just want to clarify)
Generally speaking...
Democrats believe:
- in Higher Taxes
- in More Government Programs
- in Social Justice
- in leaning towards Socialist Principles
- in Community Service
- in the General Worth of the Government in All Aspects of a citizen's life
Republicans believe:
- in Lower Taxes
- in Private Business and Enterprise
- in Tradition Over Social Justice
- in leaning towards Capitalist Principles
- in Business
- in the General Irresponsibility of Government if it grows too big
So See if you agree with either side. Also, do your own research and become familiar with the party that you seem to connect to the best.
*Also, if you're not an American, I apologize in advance. This doesn't apply to you, then...
One last note: Whether or not you want to be "extreme or in the middle", you will need to pick one side as your own. You can still be a moderate democrat, for example, but you need to be on one side at least. And, again, this is not a Jedi matter. You choose what you want and don't worry about how other Jedi will view you.
*Should a Jedi join a political party or stand independently?
Join a party (as explained in the typing just above this question). This will help voters clearly understand your general positions on all matters. "Does he follow democrat or Republican values?" "Okay, I'll vote for him."
*Personal ideas of your own?
I think that it is marvelous that you're going into politics (or at least considering it). I personally think we need more people in that area, because not many people want to do it - you know, with all of the personal attacks and criticisms that politicians receive constantly.
Plus, many people just can't speak very well and make a convincing point. (I know I can't.)
Regardless of which party you choose and what you choose to fight for, I strongly urge you, beyond all other factors, to play the political game fairly. Please don't give into illegal contributions, affairs, underhanded work, and abuse of your political power to gain more power or to favor one supporter over another critic - I'm not saying you'll do this. But you will be tempted to do these things. That is truly the Jedi moment, in my opinion. Whether or not you choose to do your job fairly or under the table.
