Yesterday at my work I talked with a person who has become very close to me in my life. She's an older woman who has always been kind, supportive, inspirational. When I started doing online radio she was one of the first people to support me. When I started sword fighting again she didn't understand the need but was behind me 100%. I told her about my returning to the name Jedi and she shocked me with the change in her approach.

"But Jedi aren't real."

My reply was very simple "I'm real."

"Yes but Jedi aren't real."

"I beg to differ, I'm here, I'm real, I'm a Jedi, therefore Jedi are real. So long as people take the name and live to the ideals we are real."

This went back and forth a bit and then we ran out of time, it is the nature of retail to run into people you know and have no time some days and too much others. Still I found the story of interest and thought I'd share it. I know I'm not the only one who runs into this. Let us share in each others strength. Real people in a real world being real Jedi.

People are to quick to relate us Jedi to the Jedi of the Star Wars films. The fact that the two are separate entities is lost to people who haven't looked into it.

Most people whobknow me are not surprised when i tell them...

I'm something of a character... lol...

My wife is my biggest disbeliever...

The worse "discussion" we had, ended when she said, "being a Jedi was stupid, the Force isn't real, " yada, yada...

I told her, "when you try to speak about something you don't know about, it doesn't make you look very smart... You play your farmville, have you virtual fishtank/cafe/Smurf village... I play being a philosopher/Jedi..."

She stopped... It was kinda unpleasant around the Jestor Compound for a while, but it keeps getting better...

Yay!

On walk-about...

Sith ain't Evil...
Jedi ain't Saints....

It is nothing we as a group or individual be concerned about. At the end of the day, their belief system have more than likely been inspired by stories or tales of a good and moral nature. It just so happens that the Jedi religion was also inspired by a story. But the important thing to note is our belief system isn't negative or biased in anyway. We don't start wars or oppress people based upon their beliefs, race or religious. We a good community trying to strive for good things.

If ignorant or intolerant people which to reject our belief system simply because of the foundations we built upon, then let them. Leave those blinded by ignorance stumble into each other in the dark. Let our morals and beliefs be the light for our path and inspire others who wish to follow.

Mikel speaks well. Only a few of us study the Force as a tangible thing like magic or spiritualism. We're here for the philosophy and the learning.

It's a matter of people being positive they know what Jedi means. Few people have trouble understanding there's both real spies AND fictional ones like James Bond. When they hear someone say they're a Jedi, to them, it's like someone claiming to be James Bond 007.
