I need some advice

This is a bit of a strange thing to be discussing, however, I do need some advice. I am at the end of my last year of school and as such many people, and other schools are making "leavers videos". Another school to mine has made a very long video which i personally think is extremely smuggy and pleased with itself, not only that but all the people at that school are bitching about all other school's videos. In my opinion the other schools, including my own, have just made the video for a bit of fun and a laugh. Whilst they have also done that, they seem to be taking things far too seriously and see it as some sort of competition. I want to make a video parodying their video, however, this girl that I'm seeing who goes there says that I shouldn't because it will be really humiliating for the people that made it and the people at her school.

I am aware that this extremely stupid and childish but I guess I would like some advice, what would a jedi do? Is it so horrible to make fun of a whole school like that. Personally I don't see it as malicious, it is not out of fear / hatred / anger that I am making the video, I just want to make fun of them. Anyway some help would be appreciated

That's a really interesting question. But there is a simple answer. Why not ask them about it?

Over all I'd side with your girlfriend, in that Jedi don't make fun of people. On the other hand, if they're good sports about it, then I'd say go ahead and do it. But truthfully, I think it might be a simple matter of just asking permission.

well, you may be doing it for simply humor reasons, but you may insult someone by accident, if I were you I'd play it safe and ask first, then explain why you're making it etc.

If people are already taking the videos too seriously and are bitching about them, the odds are a parody taking the mickey out of them may ruffle their feathers even more.
With the possibly of causing offence it would be wiser to steer clear in my opinion.

I would agree but the reason I want to make a parody is because they ARE taking it so seriously, despite the fact that it's not very serious at all

As you said it is not that big a deal this video thing. Beeing realistic, if you ask, they will probably not give you any permission, but in my opinion you could do the paarody anyway, without offending them in any direct way, and explain at the end of the video with some phrases that this is a parody video that any offence was not intended, and give them credit for the original, even congratulating them on a serious and good job.

About not offending them directly, let me explain what i mean. I imagine that you want to do what they did but making it look stupid. In that case it is not them who are acting stupid but yourselves in the parody video, so with the proper recognition at the end I do not see any reason why it should not be done.

Maybe someone does take it as an offense and gets a little mad, but I thing if you do it right, you and them both will be looking at it some years from now and having a laugh.

Let their actions speak for themselves. There is no need for you to get involved, doing so will just bring unwanted, and negative, attention to yourself

Why? Is it a positive thing? While anyone gain from it?:blink:

Do you think you are going to teach them that their video is silly? Or are you going to upset, and possibly anger the makers, and stars, of the other movie....

Is this going to make you a better person? Make them better people?

Or after a period of time, do you think these people might just realize how silt they are taking it?

Do what you think is best, as you are there, not us...

Hmmm..does their foolishness bring harm to any?...I mean true harm...is there bloodshed...likely not...doing a parody is likely to add feul to the kindling fire...which could lead to true harm...

I'd have to agree with jestor, it sounds like you want to do the video for your own personal reasons...do what you feel you must do, but consider the outcomes for your choices before you act so that you may act without regret...not everyone has the same sense of humor, so not everyone gets the joke the same way...
