I agree that you cannot blame another person for how you react to what they say and do, but you can hold them accountable/responsible for it.

zenchi, you clearly dont have firsthand experience with a severe mental illness. 'you' may still be in control physically (or look like it), but that is NOT your mind in there.

Master, that gets right down to the 'what are you' question. I submit that it is a mind/body duality. The example I was thinking of was when my father died last year. His 'mind' was gone long before his body; he was but a shell in a fugue state/coma. but when he died, we still buried 'him' in totality, not his body and/or his mind, tho we should have 'buried' his mind months before.

so, no, i have thought about this a lot, and in particular in regards to what i mentioned above. when i was manic, i did a lot of bad, crazy things. i remember most of them. tho i had no control over most of them, it was still me (at least in everyone else's agreement). and it is still me that bears the burdens and the scars from it. and it is still me that must make amends.

First off, it was just food for thought for the rationally sane, (those who can act like it anyways). I am very familiar with mental illness and how it effects the people around you, been there, done that. I've been in some mighty dark places my friend, it wasn't meant to offend....

Food for thought, is food for conversation...

I think we all agree from what I'm reading...

If, you are you, then you are responsible for your thoughts in actions....

However, if you are not you, you are "someone else", then they are responsible for them...

Furthermore, I believe we are always ourselves, legally insane or not... For that is who we evolved (or de-evolved) to be, and hopefully, we will evolve further to a better self, a better understanding of self....

If, we are not "ourselves", and require caretaking, (metal facility, or incarceration), then that is the consequences of our actions...
