A thought has grown in my mind resently. There have been some discusions about wich martial artform is the best one. And the awser is always the same. And i agree with it. "There is no one martial artform that is better then another, we all have to choose what feels right for us".
However.. granted i havent looked around that much, but i havent stumbeled upon this particular topic anyware yet. I think it would be nice to know why any of us has picked the one artform that were currently in and why it "feels right". Out of mere curiosity...
I for exampla is currently studying Wadoryu karate. It first picked my interest because as far as balance and strength go, im better trained in my upper body than my lower. and so i thought karate seemed like a balanced mix between fists and kicks, using the hands more than for example TKD (judgeing from my first impression of the two). It was only of chance that it was Wadostyle but now that i know about it i think thats the one that i would chose of the major styles as it seems most logical to me. As little movment/action as possible for as much effect as possible.
Furthermore im thinking about starting to train juijutsu and aikido. Aikido because it seems calm, wise and humane. Like fighting smart rather then powerfully. Juijutsu a little bit of the same. Seemingly more "intense" or "forcefull" than aikido but still very humane and clever.
Why i started to look into these was because i felt that many martial artforms is about fighting down or "destroying" your opponent (karate included, in my opinion). These two seemed more like the idea is to "take down" or simply imobilize your opponent without hurting him/her to much. This feel right to me as i dont want to hurt anyone, though i dont want anyone to hurt me or someone who cant defend themselves either.
Please keep in mind that i am still pretty fresh at martial arts and have only looked into, not tried juijutsu and aikido.
So this was some insight on why i like the martial artforms that i like. Hope this hasnt bored too many who read this and i hope that many reply and read so that we all may come to a slightly greater understanding of perhaps not only martial art and perpectives on it but also of eachother.
Have a good one. peace..

Personally I look into all sorts of mixed martial arts and that includes weapons in martial arts too. I focus more on the defensive side of things as after all, we're peacekeepers.
Now why mixed martial arts? Because I myself build upon many different views, beliefs and so forth. So mixed martial arts tends to suit me bringing in different parts from all different types of martial arts.

In my opinion, the most effective martial arts form is Krav Maga, no contest. It's all about being able to fight in real-world situations. It's practical and no-holds barred. There was a Krav Maga group at my college- they started training by getting you exhausted, THEN you fought. It makes your body able to defend itself when its not at its peak. Then they'd have you practice with blaring music, in dim lighting, with people surrounding you, anything to make you lose focus. I wish I was able to practice it longer.
However, the downside of it is that it teaches you how to do real damage to people- the thought is to prepare you for worst-case scenarios where you really need to incapacitate someone.
I also like Jiu Jitsu, it's a more peaceful martial art but still very good for defense. Actually, my girlfriend recently got attacked by a guy at a Wendy's- he shoved her once, she (naturally
) shoved him back, he went in to throw a punch and she moved, grabbed his wrist, locked his arm behind his back, and slammed his face into the counter. Kept him there with the arm lock (PAINFUL) until the cops came. Which is astounding, because she's about 5'4 and only took Jiu Jitsu for about 3 months.
So, probably the best martial art (again, imho) for a Jedi to learn would be Jiu Jitsu, but with the Krav Maga training style (get you worn out so it's more like how you'd fight in real life, and you learn to maintain awareness of your surroundings while in less-than-peak condition etc.)

Dont we already have a topic for this?
Anyway the best martial art for a Jediist is what ever you want it to be. So long as it doesn't compel you to harm some one else.

Ive heard nothing but great things about Krav Maga. Makes me wish there were people here to teach it, sounds like its seriously worth the time and effort to learn...
