Well we went and looked at my moms house. She is very lucky. Only minor roof damage and a small leak in her bathroom. however if you go 5 houses down her neighbors houses are under 20 feet of water. She has not electricity or running water at the moment.
As for my apartment it survived as well. The grandfather tree in front of my door is still standing exactly how I left it.. I however do have minor carpet damage just 1 ft inside my apartment. I also have a couple leaks as well.
The surrounding area looks like a war zone. Trees uprooted, freeway signs about 3 miles from the freeway, flooding, The Hilton at Nassau Bay has been slightly descimated. There are boats that are from the country club that is across the street at NASA, Clear Lake Park in Nassau Bay on the right side is 40 under water. So now we begin the recovery period.
Many here are without electricity and water. However my thoughts are with those in Galveston that did not evacuate and are awaiting rescue.
I still have not heard from Jay (Tartanus) since last night. I feel he is with those that are trying to rescue those that are stuck in Galveston. Please keep him and the others that have decimated by this storm. Ike has moved on to NorthEast. I can honestly say in my lifetime here in Texas, I have never seen a storm this large or violent. My thoughts go to those that have been displaced by this monster storm.

I am thankful to hear that you are OK Azrel and that yours and your Mom's home didn't recieve too much damage.
I am sure that regardless you still have a lot of work ahead of you in recovery from this storm, and know that I am thinking of all of you.
I will keep your brother in my thoughts and prayers.
I will also keep in my thoughts and prayers those awaiting rescue, and those who will have a very big recovery to deal with once the storm has finally passed.

Update:
Well we have gotten all my moms stuff back to her house. We (mom and myself) and many others are still without electricity. They are talking about it being anywhere from a week to a month before electricity is restored to areas.
I stopped off at Ellington Field by my home to see if I can find out any information on Jay and all reserve units not needed here in houston are down in Galveston for search and rescue.
Many are returning home only to be turned away because of floods and no electricity. Clean up has begun in certain areas but it is going to take a while before we are back to what we were as a city.
I consider myself and my family lucky. We have not lost anything, but others have lost all they have. There is no offical death count at the moment, because we are not sure how many were lost to sea for those that stayed in the Galveston section of Texas. but officals are anticpating a large amount.
Please keep those in mind, thoughts, prayers, etc... that have nothing to return to and those that have lost this fight. I can personally say I lived during Huricane Elisha in the 80's and Ike made Elisha and Rita look like child's play in comparison. The devestation of Elisha is NOTHING compared to the devestation that Ike has left behind. As I have said before it is like a war zone down here.
