May i suggest borrowing a trap from the animal welfare group in your area...

Put the food in the cage but make sure the trap wont shut for a couple of nights, on the third night when the animal is sued to the idea of getting food from the cage and nothing bad happening, set the trap properly.

If it is Freya then great, you have got your mogster back... if not, then you have caught the culprit and assuming you let it out, it wont steal food from your yard in a hurry again

PS these traps do not harm the cat, its a large cage with a triggered door and commonly used by wildlife/veterinary organisations and as this is an animal welfare issue, im sure they will loan you a trap for a week or so

I did finally find out who my \"mystery eater\" is... unfortunetly, it was not Freya. I fear with Hanna coming, if she still is out there, after the storm she may not be able to find her way home. In the meantime, I have been able to stay in good spirits and while still hopeful, to not let it get me down.
Anyhoo, it ends up that who has been eating the food is a sunny-colored kitten... who finally came out during the day to sun itself on my back deck, until it saw me and bolted... it very well may be feral, we have two feral cat colonies near by and by the way it looks (very thin) and it's behaviour towards humans (runs at the mere site of us) it isn't a stretch. Regardless, at least the mystery is solved

antother thing it could be Lilith is that she is pregnant and found a spot to have her litter.
