PLEASE READ THIS FIRST! :D I thought this was a good representation though. The Sultan represents the people while Jafar represents the government. Jafar, like the government claims to have a solution but the people will pay a price for it. The public is hesitant but the government convinces them to do it anyway and then distracts them with toys and encourages them to play with them. Today, it'd be computers, games, tv's and smartphones. xD Think this is pretty accurate? :P

Ahh - you may be on to something... control is easly released- I find in life - it was way too often in my own. Complacency - as they say can be the killer- then stagnation and buying in can also strangle the human mind - u think ?

After being asked to stop and after consulting with our security offiers, Ob1 is banned for continuing to attack people in a thread once reminded of the rules. His posts, my posts and any related to the personal attacks will be soft deleted so the topic can get back on track

I think its more cultural then governmental, as it seems to be in our nature to shift blame away from ourselves.... perhaps because we're wired to seek external threats so acutely.

People would be complaining about any system probably, but.... only if that system allowed them too!!!

Since people have various shared instincts and desires - finding a system which supports these in the most healthy way tends to shape how a government can survive without the culture tearing it apart. What I've found is that cultures 'allow' governments, and it's only in the big dictatorial regimes where the government has any real control over peoples freedoms, like the various spinoffs from socialist idealism.

What will that culture allow them to do, what does it expect them to do, and what needs to be done.... with the differences in various government being (at the simplest level of analysis) maybe just 1. how much freedoms they give their citizens, 2. how much they tax them, and 3. how they proportion that.

But its gotta be viewed in the context of the real world and not an imaginary alternate one. It's not a choice between utopian ideal or dictatorial nightmare, it's always going to be a somewhere in between.

Aladdin like luke is on the hero's journey. The worlds they live in are based on the real world, and experience similar issues (which are nothing new). In the star wars prequels we see that the government fools the people (or their representatives) into adopting a solution to a problem the government (palpatine) created. Palpatine creates a problem between the trade federation and the republic... only to offer a solution which, as a 'by-product' (although really the end goal) gives him everything he wants
... except the hero turns up eventually and fights the embodiment of the government, aladdin vs jaffar, luke vs palpatine.

Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies.

Don’t forget - most of OlWalts movies are from...... books! Arabian nights is a classic and often has many journey and or paths in its writings. Aladdin and his uncle. Good stuff. Good plot and good story / journey. One of Olwalts favorite quotes of mine is “I’m a street rat - I’ll improvise “ or even better from Trons legacy -“ I’m a user - I’ll improvise “ - that constant reminder - I’m human - I CAN think , I’ll figure it out . The human potential is a awesome thing.
On the subject - I try to stay away and NOT count or even lean on the support of the government as often as I can so when those - hiccups or silliness that don’t - have me in consideration happen , I’m Not at loss or strain. It’s tough but possible

I find that the media is far more manipulative than the government. But I don't trust either one, anyway.

I once went to every floor in a big government building.

All I found was a bunch of people doing weird jobs they didn't understand and feigning confidence to their supervisors that outcomes were being met in order to keep the paycheques coming.

(and cheap stationery)

They must keep the cackling madman with the devious plots in another building.
