Hello hello!

Is anyone else participating in the National Novel Writing Month?

For those who are unaware, it is a challenge to write a novel in a month. The effect is to increase your ability to write and to push you to your next goal.

Here's one of the bigger pages that helps people meet their goals: https://nanowrimo.org/
Here's my project: https://nanowrimo.org/participants/nakis/novels/jediism-emotion-yet-peace

I'm currently using a dictation app to spout words and ideas at my phone so I can take it apart and dissect it over the weekend. Currently at 5779 words, including mistakes and dictation device errors, but here we go!

I've tried in the past, but Eddy (my inner editor) really doesn't like going for quantity over quality. XD My sister, on the other hand, usually runs the NaNoWriMo club in her area. She's finished her novel for the past 5-6 years. XD And apparently I'm the writer of the family ;P

But good luck with your novel! I saw your wall post on it, do you intend on posting it here afterwards?

I'm pushing out as much as possible, and then sifting through for actual goodness and building from there. I'd like to put it here when it's done. I eventually want to do the whole Code like this.

I've been struggling to finish a novel for years. In August, I set a goal of finishing it by December. I actually finished in on September 26th. Don't get me wrong - it's terrible - mostly because I forced myself to write even when I wasn't in the mood or the FLOW. And it's far from over - there is probably another year of editing before I could even dream of seeing it on a shelf. Still, it goes to show the power of setting goals for ourselves, in any area of our life.

That being said, I'm going to try like hell to write another book this month.

I've always wanted to push for NaNoWrMo but I never had an idea by the time November rolled around and I enjoy grandiose plots that would take me longer then a month to complete. These past years I've learned so much about writing practices. It's Quality not Quantity.

The only way to become an effective writer and develop that talent is to write consistently and often.

For me it's not even that.... If you love to write...you will write regardless of time spent or consistency applied.

I have been writing nearly every single day for 8 years....not a single one of our peaces are published and im sure most of it is mediocre at best. Not to mention the spelling/grammer edits of 8 years rough drafting XD haha

So for me it is more about how you define "Effective Writer" and "Talent" I say I have both ;) Most are likely thinking of end, published product rather than simply enjoyment of the art though :-p

I did NaNo once, probably five or six years ago. Even though it was nowhere near my best work, and I really didn't finish the *story* in a satisfying way, it was a very worthwhile experience. Word sprints are where it's at. In fact, now that I think about it, if I had been setting myself sprints I probably would have knocked out my Apprenticeship in half the time it actually took me. :D

Enjoy the experience, Nakis. If you come out of it with something you feel like sharing, I'll be at the front of the queue to read it.
