The Great Jedi Holocron - Question about "Art of Magic" was created by
Hello There!
I wanted to ask some questions about a book I'm reading, "The Great Jedi Holocron" by Adam Yaw.
More specifically, I wanted to ask about one part of the book: Art of Magic.
I've always been attracted by "Magic", and here I've found a lot of guidelines and guides to develope some kind of "powers" that it seems we can learn from the Force, like enhanced reflexes, perception, the ability to "alter" our perception of reality like cooling ourselves down or the opposite.
To someone like me, who had grown with a mother that believed in Reiki and all those kind of "Arts" (which I've never believed however, true), it's something strange. Part of me wants to try to understand if it will ever work, but the other part of me wants to just say "Stop believing those things".
So my question was, have someone ever tried what is written in the book? Should I give a try to this and learn those tecniques?
Thank for the answers, and May The Force Be With You!
Also, if it is in the wrong section of the forum, I ask sorry :')

Hey there! The holocron magic segment is... decent. But it's still kinda bare bones. I know there are some folks here at TOTJO who don't believe in that stuff. All I can say about it is that, from my experience, it works. Or, some of it does, at least. There are better resources out there for learning that stuff. Dion Fortune has some decent books on energy working, they go far more in depth than the holocron segment. Magic is a massive subject, there are many books on it. Practical experience with magic is more valuable than book-learned magic skills IMO, and I personally would encourage practice and experimentation.

I haven't read the book so I don't know what techniques are in it. In my experience, there's a power to the force of will. When you look at it, wiccan magick, Abrahamic prayer, and the like are all forms of will and desire. You want enhanced reflexes? Get yourself in the right mindset and practice it. Perception? mindset and practice.
I was given a set of exercises from my Mental Health provider. I have chronic pain in my hip and have been relying on medication to no avail. One of the exercises involves focusing on a non-injured extremity (usually a non-injured hand) and feeling like there's heat concentrated in it. Then laying that hand over the pain and imagining it soothing the pain away. And I'll be damned if it doesn't work.
Another one was to picture the painful part of you sitting away from you in another chair. It's both amusing and helpful.
All I can say is, as long as these techniques don't involve outside forces and don't involve physical danger, there's little harm in trying them and see if it works for you!

Thank you both for the quick answer, I will give a try to Dion Fortune's books and I will also do some of the training described in the Holocron
