That was terrific Leah I really enjoyed that. It did make you think I kept laughing at the angry face drawing though. But, it's true and I think that is true of being a Jedi. Always learning from others and willingness to be open to others opinions and beliefs and not get offended. Your beliefs are not necessarily my beliefs and you may not agree with mine and that is okay.

It's funny I used to to be that way as a Christian. Nothing outside the Bible was true and if someone dare challenged my viewpoints and beliefs outside my four walls of thinking then I would get anger and offended. I came to TOTJO and have really changed all that I believe and love hearing peoples opinions and beliefs and even add theirs to my own. I really believe we can learn from each other and have tolerance and I love that.

Funny how the one thing it doesn't provide "citations" of is its central thesis. It's almost as if the author or their readers or both believe the core message anyway and are happy to hear it even when nothing is provided to back it up. It's almost as if we are accepting the message for just the same emotional reasons the message cautions us against. Incidentally, while I generally don't take lessons in neuroscience from webcomics, this is perhaps the only level on which I saw the point. The actual "facts" the comic presented me with shook up precisely nothing in me at all, especially not the ones after the comic admitted that the sources it uses aren't academic but are picked to paint a picture, any picture sought after at the time. If I didn't check the sources before then, that moment was when I understood that I didn't need to. This piece was there to make a political statement, not to actually educate anyone.
Oh and we are not all going in the same direction. If we were, our paths would tend to converge within our lifetimes, at least sometimes. Alas, little besides death is truly common to all our ways...

good points, got me curious so i consulted with my sources and found a youtube video on the backfire effect, by a channel called "bite size psyche"

the video lists the following sources:

Oh, I know, I was just pointing out a particular shortage of self-awareness in a comic emploring us to have some. It's not actually wrong about how much deep seated emotional beliefs have dominion over the average person who never had to train their critical faculties. Still, would any of us be so happy to share it if the message was the opposite, everything else being equal? It points us to the fact that we are biased, yet doing so it in a way expects us to be biased in its favour, as if bias is only a bad thing if the "them"-tribe has it. I don't know, maybe I'm just reading more into it than is supposed to be there...

What might that stirring be, maybe perhaps the subconscious exerting effort to process the square peg through its round hole... which we for some reason might interpret as something to defend just because it engages us at some deeper level then normal awareness. So on some level it could be seen to be considered some form of power to motivate action, and so could be used for constructive action if the focus was made more useful.
