Today, May 2, 2017, we laid my wife's uncle down to rest. As can be imagined, there were lots of feelings and tears to be had. My wife and her uncle were very close and she was very emotional. She spoke with various members of the family and each time she broke down to heavy tears. I felt her pain with her, not because he and I were close, but because my wife and I are. I needed to ease her pain, at least to some degree.
What came to mind and what I told her was this. I simply asked her to look around and for her to describe to me what she sees. First off she said the sun, blue skies, and a few clouds. I prompted her to keep looking. She quickly said, trees, grass, and flowers. Her tears had stopped at this point, but I asked her to close her eyes and explain to me what she feels. She responded with the wind and the warmth of the sum on her skin. I asked my wife to keep her eyes closed for just another minute or two and asked her what she hears. Her response was birds and the wind blowing through the bushes and trees.
She opened her eyes and looked at me. At this point her tears had stopped, her breathing had slowed, and she was no longer shaking. She simply asked why I had her do those things. I told her that her uncle was not gone, only changed. I said to her that her uncle is now part of the trees and grass, the wind and flowers, and warmth of the sun, and even the wind. She smiled and has been much calmer the rest of the day.
It is times like this that I love being Jedi, that I thrive on helping others. I am grateful to everyone in this Temple for accepting me nearly two years ago and for teaching me what I have learned so far. There are a few that are extra special to me here, but I want everyone to know that I appreciate everything that you have done and everything that you are. Each of you are special and if you, any of you, EVER need me, I am here.
May the Force guide you well on your journey and thanks to everyone of you that are a part of my journey.
Peace and Light always
