What is wrong with suggesting you check with a health care professional to make sure that a diet or fast is something you are healthy enough for. For example, if you have very low blood sugar levels and then fast it could be really bad for you. I am not sure why you sound so hostile to the idea of making sure it's safe to do something before doing it.

Absolutely check if it is safe before you do it. (A good way to do this is by starting small, trying different things, and noting the effects.)
My comment was about "checking with doctors"

Know yourself, know what foods affect you, what you need (so, sugar...) to survive.

If you've got this far without understanding to some degree how food affects you then it's sheer dumb luck you're alive.

If someone gives the advice "check with a doctor" - Then they better make damn sure they don't drink alcohol, smoke, or eat any number of packaged foods that are more or less poison - otherwise it has nothing to do with Health, Safety, or the advice of (so called) professionals. It's a responsibility cop out.

That's only half of why I seem belligerent on the subject - the other half is doctors.

Unless there is something blatantly wrong with you, or what you want to do is absolutely nuts, most doctors just say "start small, try different things, and note the effects"

Go to a Health Care Professional when you can see your femur, not for advice your mum* could give you.

Yes, a doctor will likely tell you that but unless you have gone to see one how would you know they tell you that? Further, what does having a bad habit have to do with sound advice? The character or vices of a person do not change the truth of a statement. So life long 40 pack a day smoker can still tell you check with a doctor and be right.

As far as knowing how food impacts you I'm sorry but most people do not know much about nutrition or their blood sugar levels. The only way they could know those things is to see a professional. You can say the internet is there but unless you know what's good advice vs bad you can get easily mislead. So in short yea checking with a Doc is a wise thing to do.

Finally, the whole responsibility cop out comment is an unfair judgement. If I am not a professional at something but state what works for me why would I not tell you to check with a professional before following what I do? I am not an expert and do not know your health so I sure as heck do not want someone following my diet and hurting themselves so advising people to check outside of my own experience is a pretty good idea.

Edit: I am not trying to come off as combative or harsh in any way. If the tone appears that way my apologies because rereading this I am now in doubt on if I sounded overly critical or not.

I have fasted many times. I do so as a cleansing/detox for my body. I routinely fast for 24 hour periods. I periodically fast for a week. And I have fasted once for 30 days.

The advice given already is very important.

Also, never do it on your own. Have someone monitor you.

Be mindful and watch your physical activity while fasting. You are not taking in anything to burn calories.

If you fast for more than a couple of days add a juice diet back to solid foods. Your stomach cannot just go back to eating solid food after a long fast.

The first 48 hours are hardest. Week two-three is hard. After that it really is not that difficult.

Drink lots of water!

Kit wrote: If you decide to fast, I would caution about being mindful of your body's needs for the action of that day. Depending on your own health, your activities, and the length of time you fast, it can become dangerous to your health.

Just listen to what your body is telling you.

Very good advice.

I try to fast at least once a month during the phase of the full moon. (No real reason for the moon except it's just an easy way of keeping up with my fasting) And I only fast from sunrise to sunset which is a breeze in the winter but a nightmare during the summer. lol. But I do not do a complete fast due to medications I am on. I have to drink plenty of water throughout the day so, I've given up food, but I'm still in-taking water during my fast.

You will need to experiment with it. In the end, the answers are within you.
