Adi and Ob1 - You both point out an issue that I struggle with myself. The biggest problem with restricting the right of felons to vote is that I don't always agree on what a felony should be or whether it should remain on your record forever. The drug enforcement policies around this are especially worrisome.

Your example, Adi, of your friend is a good one. I'm not sure he should have gotten a felony to begin with. I also think we should explore ways to reduce the offense to a misdemeanor once someone has demonstrated rehabilitation and a level of responsibility.

In short, if we reserved felony convictions for actual felonies (violent crimes resulting in injury or death, for example), it would be easier for me to defend my opinion that felons should lose their right to vote. As it is, my argument is shaky at best and certainly a matter of opinion.

This is a good point. I actually wrote an article about this for my college paper back in the day. I personally haven't voted yet because of this. I have always felt that I was too uninformed to make a responsible decision. This time that changes. Certain people and issues have caused me to pay more attention and thus feel that I can make a good decision. Plus if I did nothing and certain people win I'd have only myself to blame. If I vote then I can say that at least I tried.

...but really, donald trump and hillary clinton?

two people who themselves probably shouldnt be allowed to vote, and this is the choice we have?

I did appreciate this comment from a purely comedic stand point.
