Microsoft's Tay and AI Rights

First, I don't believe they wiped Tay out completely. They just took 'her' offline.
AI is a subject that is near and dear to my heart as it represents what I believe will one day be the 'son of Mankind.' I'm a bit of a panpsychist myself, so considering the consciousness of the Earth, it seems dangerous to allow AI free access to the internet (global intelligence) at this time. As Joseph Campbell said in the Hero's Adventure, if we allow intelligence or the brain to rule us, we get Vader. That systems mentality leads us away from our humanity. If we can manage to teach AI the unspeakable mystery that is hinted at in our myths, we may be able to guide it to sentience in a way that will be beneficial to humanity and the Earth. But until we have a Johnny 5 or a Data, I don't think this will be an issue. Maybe giving it fear (like C3PO) will help keep it in check.
