The way of Jediism was created by
It has come to my attention that more and more people are beginning to practice the path of Jediism and yet we are still viewed as a religion that is not entirely recognized by most people. In my short time practicing it I have found a many number of reactions ranging from curiosity to down right dismissal of the path. I'm curious now, has anyone else here had any outwardly negative situations arise? How should they be handled? I wish to promote awareness of the Force and Jediism and to show that this is something that is as real as Christianity or Taoism but I understand that for some there is no ability to make them see what cannot be seen. If there is anyone out there that can lend a hand on how to better relate to people on making them and myself better understand the Force, please respond.

Honestly, my path is my own. If the subject comes up, I gage the reactions of my listener and adjust my responded accordingly. If they can't see past the word "Jedi" then we laugh together and the subject moves on. If they're interested in hearing what it means to me then I get to talk further. I don't need to force my opinion on others. I don't need them to realize that Jediism is real. For many people, a faith other than their own is fake anyways ;)

Does it change your belief in the slightest if they never recognize it or always see you as a joke?

The Force needs no converts or believers to be what it is and I doubt that "raising awareness" will really do very much but draw the attention of those you'd rather not have.

What I like about things that are "real" is that they certainly don't need us to defend them as such :) They just... are. The right people will find their way to the right places in the right time, no assistance required.

but I understand that for some there is no ability to make them see what cannot be seen.

Why would you even want to? If a person is convinced that a chicken is a dog, what is the point in arguing? It seems to me that the primary concern you have is making people believe in the validity and worth of the practice. People defend Christianity, Buddhism or Taoism as if they existed because they have an unshakable conviction that each one does. So just... let go... of individual people's opinions on what you know to be true. If someone really wants to interrogate you, send them to the site :)

I speak for no one but myself. This is how I would handle it :)

This can be applied to any area of day to day life.

People have different interests and beliefs than you do, its what makes up their unique personality.

Trying to change someone or convince them that your way is better, statististically speaking, doesn't usuall yeild great results.

If they dont see your path as valid, who really cares? Do you see their path as valid? If not, do you really think any argument on their path would sway you?

Your responses have been informative and have helped me to better understand how to help me gauge how to deal with and interact with people when dealing with Jediism. I'll keep this thread open for a while for anyone interested but otherwise I'll consider my questions answered and the inquiries responded to.
