I read this one article that talks about the history of the militia take over of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon and was wondering what people's opinions are on this. There are obviously two sides to this story, and this article shows just one of them.

I am also looking for further facts, not conjecture, about what is going on and why.

Vox has a fairly good, objective article up that details the facts of the situation. They also have a less-objective article that explains why the minimum sentencing given to the ranchers at the heart of the matter is kinda ridiculous , which people on both sides (including the judge in the first case) agree with. Incidentally, both ranchers have left Oregon to report to prison today , while the Bundy siege continues on.

Reading more on it, it seems like there is wrong done. Like using the Antiterrorism Act to charge these men.

In my opinion, it seems as though armed conflict will not solve the situation.

After reading the full article, it is a shame, certainly, that any government can get away with that level of bullying. It still doesn't validate people reacting the way they are. The whole situation is a mess that I am glad to not have to personally sort out.

But then, men with the guns were seeking attention: they certainly got their wish!

Hard to tell right now, if that Conservative article is accurate that yes it sucks for the family but at the end of day you're dealing with the US .gov, citizens are now the Indians and illegal immigrants are the Pilgrams. What this story does show is that anyones land can be taken for eminent domain and there is not a damn thing any of us can do. It makes me wonder if there is any truth to the rumor that some Chinese company wants to build a huge solar plant in the area. What happened to this family could happen to any of us for whatever reason, and I'm all for standing up for the constitution and standing against an out of control, overreaching government IF THAT'S REALLY THE CASE. Sure this "militia" might not be idealistic, and give the militia an even more tarnished look to the unthinking sheople and even play into their puppetmaster media and gooberment's agenda to keep them dependent, working, entertained and disarmed - but at what point does one draw the line in the sand?

At least there are people there to bring attention to this, but I think there's a lot of nonsense in there too. You've got guys obviously who are not even physically fit, they're there to brag and are overly belligerent. Some are making videos of themselves just in case they get "taken out by the .gov." I honestly wouldn't surprised if there were undercover federal agents running the show there, or there to at least act as provocatuers to stir this up. Plus, there's an old saying: "Amateurs study tactics. Professionals study logistics." There doesn't appear to be a whole lot of logistical planning that went into this uprising. It looks like just a bunch of pissed-off dudes who've seized the "objective" and are sitting around right now wondering what to do now.

If their "cause" is righteous, then you'll see this swept under the MSM rug and they'll make a deal to quiet it down. If it's not righteous, this will get worse and you bet some of those militia organizers will be getting arrested at the very least. Time is on the side of the Federal Government. No need to rush. In all likelihood, this thing will collapse in a few weeks. Unfortunately this fight is going to make all gun owners look like the tyrants.
