All new or different ideas are "fiction" to those who are unfamiliar to them. However, upon due and deliberate consideration, those ideas are translated in to action for the greater good of humanity. Where then lies any fallacy in the original "fiction"?

In other words, a good idea from fiction is still a good idea. It requires people willing to take action to make it real. There are many examples throughout history - just ask Jules Verne, Arthur C. Clark, Gene Roddenberry, or many others.

I think it's funny that we get called that. How different is Jediism in it's concept to any other religions? It's probably because we are of a minority and that it's ideals do stem off of a fictional thing. But, I could call Catholics crazy... I think it's just people being opposed to anyone else not believing in the same thing as them.

A saying I came up with to deal with this kind of ignorance is...

"There's a fine line between insight and insanity."

The keyword here is "ignorance". People will think of jedis as crazy robe-wearers who try and make mind-tricks and telekinesis, as much as they'll think of buddhists as bald secluded monks. Anyway, best way is to speak through your actions, and tell people to find out more if they're interested. You don't ever have to mention jediism, you can mention any of the beliefs it's founded on.

i think this is not an effective way to interact with people

if your standard for respecting others is that they demonstrate themselves to be some kind of human calculator then you are going to fall short of your own standards

if you treat people without respect until they have earned the right to be treated like human beings then what you will get is a kick in the arse and a reputation as a jerk

if someone is being an ass i think its perfectly valid to address the issue of them being an ass before moving to the merit of their ideas

this is not new

so if someone is not only being a disrespectful ass, but is also shouting a bunch of deas that i already know, then i definitely think the important thing to address is the fact that they are being an ass

i learned all this by being an ass myself, so i am speaking from experience

What is crazy is all of the conflict, prejudice, injustice, and mindless following of those entities that seek only to dominate or manipulate through such, be their focus through race, religion, or whatever other dividing nature of humanity.

I've only recently joined, and I've told friends/family of my intentions to go ahead with the training as I believe in what being a Jedi stands for. Some have laughed, others have thought I was talking about cosplay. I simply show them or refer them to this website and the forums and they usually say how welcoming and interesting it all is.

I say let our actions speak for the Order, and people will want to know. And when they get here and see the awesome people they will understand.
