The world is FILLED with TOO MUCH information!

At first I wanted to post this in the rant thread but I enjoy and value the posted comments and discussion.

What do you think?

The World isn't "filled" with the information, Rickie -- the "World" is the information ...

... we just have (quasi-instant) access to too much of it : we get information "overload". We don't have the capacity to process much of the information that comes to us, neither are we very good at doing the triage.

Now, our telecommunications are not bad - nor even bad for us, when used properly -, they actually do a lot of good. We just need to exercise our here & now-ness and discern what is truly worth us thinking about (and thus caring* about).

:)

I find the world simply "is"...

There is a lot of things we could learn about, and study, and it all is increasingly available to our fingertips...

But, we dont have to learn about everything, lol... ;)

Our human minds are always looking for patterns, and begin assigning colors, definitions, a "value" to things, and it becomes and overload, I do get what you mean.... :)

Yet, if you look without thinking (no wise cracks, lol) without trying to classify, label and understand, and simply (lol, As if it is simple) accept what "is", it really becomes a much quieter place... :)

On the surface, tho, Rickie is correct. I barely remember a time before 24 hour news, before fear based journalism, before the internet. It's inflected by childhood , but the world seemed simpler. We only had to worry about our own little part. Now, we see tragedy everywhere, worldwide. And we either become numb(er) to it or overwhelmed.

Too much information. Not enough of it 'good', both in terms of quality and positive nature.

I'm not sure in what context you're saying there's too much information... however, I would say that it isn't really a case of there being too much information, but that not enough people have the skills to understand much of the information they take in. It's why clever advertising tricks people into buying something that isn't really a discount, and politicians convince people with clever soundbites and intentional hyperbole.

I love information and I love learning... but one should understand the value of the information they're consuming...

It won't let me have a blank signature ...

On the surface...

However, turning off the tv and radio, and not reading the paper, and I find the input much less, lol...

Its our choice how much we get exposed too...

My thinking, anyway, lol...

I agree. There is way too much information.

Alexander is correct though that the world is information. Everything is a base of information.

However. It all depends on how we choose to process it.

Which in turn, leads into what Deslosous says. Now days, Information is laid out in front of us in oceans at your finger tips. You wake up each morning and get the whole Internet screaming "INFORMATION"

You get overloaded with it. In your Facebook news feeds, on your TV, your Newspaper, your Magazines, your wife (or husband) spewing out "So there was another shooting....." Information flashes past us like neon lights and over flows us with large, bright advertisements and in today's age....we are in EVERYONE'S Business.

Back in the day....when all you had to worry about was the home your hands keep raised, and the food to feed your kids.....It suddenly becomes a time of bliss and peace in comparison. :)

Solution?
Stop looking at the computer first thing in the morning.
Leave your newspapers and TV for later on in the day (Afternoon)
Meditate first thing in the morning
Be out in nature before you submit to the social life outside your door.
Only focus on the things that are important and prudent to you and your life. The rest is just static - lay to the side.
Find a hobby that helps you numb it out. (I write Fantasy/Fictional stories)

:) Just my thoughts. It works for me

Mmmm I kind of have to disagree. I mean obviously Information Addicts are out there and people are Gluttons for punishment....

But I also think it is very very (Way too) easy to get sucked into it all. I find myself getting sucked into it for a time and my mood changes. I get more angry, more bitter, more tense and tight, and eventually I have to stop and say....well why? It almost always leads to:

People on my facebook are flooding my wall with Negative Information about how frelled up the world is. - I already know that...why focus on it?

My husband is really sucked into it right now so he talks about it all the time. So I get it almost all day from him - I aready know it...so I need to find different, positive things to distract him
