General Advice on Not Doing Things
You think about something alot. Like "Boy it would be a good idea if..." or maybe "I need to be doing that." or "Don't forget this on a more regular basis." etc etc
But it never really comes to fruition. All things that would greatly improve the quality of your life...
So whats going on? How does one make that step? What could even be stopping one from doing it?
What are your thoughts?

Depending on what they are when I was ready, I'd be looking to scheduling in some effort to trial various natures of implementation. Some things might take a few different attempts to get the right fit. You only succeed by trying, and failing is just a normal intermediary phase of trying (perhaps sometimes called learning LOL?)!

to quit smoking is a great idea
so is learning how to paint or creating a web site to sell your widgets
all really good ideas but none of them would be handled exactly the same way
a few things that have high percentages
become accountable by telling people who you respect that you are going to do such and such
a lot of times the idea of not living up to our word will give us the extra incentive
get a day planner and use it
im working with this myself -its a tough habbit to get in to for me but repetition makes the master
im led to belive that if i just stay persistent it will become second nature eventually
the benefits are obvious to me - way better time management and organization
recruit others by joining a group related to your interest
if you want to learn a new skill then find other people who also want to learn
or who know and want to teach it
sign up for classes somewhere
put an ad in craigslist for activity partners
start a thread here at totjo announcing your intention to do whatever it is and setting a check in schedule
people will be happy to offer support and encouragement
if no one else does, i will
stick post it notes EVERYWHERE to remind yourself
EVERYWHERE
reward yourself with incentives for making progress, like agree that after six months of steady effort towards your goal you can buy yourself something you really want or go some place youve been wondering about
think of someone you really dont like and commit to doing something for their benefit that would really get under your skin every week that goes by and you dont do whatever it is that you want to do
put a jar somewhere
every time you do the thing you put money in it - when the jar is full use it for one of the aforementioned ideas
if you have any days off, use one to wake up an hour earlier and do your thing; at night, spend a half hour setting your will to doing the thing
make a bet with someone who wont let you off the hook that youll make a certainamount of progress
talk to someone who cares about you, explain what you want to do and ask them for regular encouragement
hire a ninja to jump out of the bushes and karate kick you every weekend you dont make progress
be like nike and just do it
