This topic very much reminds me of a Friends episode. (oh yeah, I went there B) )

In the episode Joey and Pheobe are discussing whether or not a person can do a good deed selflessly. Joey's argument was that every good deed was selfish because you feel good about doing it and are therefore doing it to feel good. Pheobe spent the entire episode trying to prove him wrong, even going so far as to let a bee sting her because she thought it would make it look tough in front of it's friends (Joey reminded her that it would die afterwards). In the end she donated to charity that she hated while Joey was working it's telethon. She was thoroughly unhappy about it until her donation got Joey on camera, then she was very happy and Joey was proven right.

Sorry, when I see an easy Friends reference I have to take it.

In the end, I personally feel like charity is charity. If a person or a business does it for recognition it's still a good thing being done. If someone does it anonymously then a good thing still gets done. We should always make sure of our motives, but in the case of throwing fundraisers or donating to charity, as long as the good deed gets done we shouldn't really be too concerned with "did they do it to be recognized or not."
