Meditation After Effect

Meditation After Effect was created by
So this morning I had a deep meditation session, but I knew I had to be somewhere soon. I probably only got twenty minutes in when my phone vibrated to remind me. After that I became really quiet and as if my mind was somewhere else entirely. Things that came easily to me I stumbled on and I was in an ever constant daydreaming state. During my session I had been at peace but it was disrupted.
Does this mean something I don't know or understand?

It just means that you didn't "return" fully so to speak. I did a journey once and had to pee really bad in the middle of it so I just got up to go to the bathroom. I felt like I was floating on clouds in a day-dreamy sort of way and it took some effort to get the world back in focus lol. Didn't like it at all so I've always make an effort to come back to myself before I get up anymore.
Set your alarm sooner so you have time to re-gather your thoughts. Maybe use one of those gentle awake alarms

So I would be still in a half meditative state?
And I'll try a softer alarm, less abrupt alarm

When I started meditating this happened to me a lot. I would get interrupted and have the same experiences you describe, foggy headed, even a little bit irritated at having been stopped. But I found that over time the interruptions don't effect me as much anymore. That being said, until you can get to that kind of state a good practice might be to give yourself enough time to where you have about 5 to 10 minutes after your meditation to come back to your normal state of mind perhaps just by restarting your inner dialogue or something like that.

I can offer an explanation
and some advice
the explanation takes a minute
theres a part of us that talks incessantly
its always talking, every moment of our lives
but its talking to itself
and its talking about itself
in sleep the conversation opens up a little bit because while this part of us never wants to stop talking and the only subjectit knows is itself, lets say that in sleep it realises theres someone else in the room
the explanation i have for you is that your practice of silence is begining to have the effect
of your talking self to
becoming aware of someone else in the room
that someone else is also you
and it has been there the whole time
so theres nothing to be afraid of
the function of the talking self
is that by talking to itself
it tells itself about the world
about the rules of the world
about the truths of the world
and this gives us a map and a system from which to operate
this talk gives us a context within which we can live
so its a powerful and valuable part of ourselves
but its weakness is that it sincerely forgets that there is someone else in the room
and sometimes it even pretends to forget
because it really just wants tohear itself talk
rather than pay attention to our someone else
its this talk that explains the rules of t he world
so when this talk is intterupted therules of the world in which we operate become less clear
silence leaves this part of ourselves stunned momentarily
if we reach this silence in a deliberate progressive fashion then it is not unduly shocking but rather kind of peaceful
but we feel "numb" or unable to focus
unable to focus is exactly right
because in the terms of this explanation
"focus" means for the talking self to recall a preset of rules that it has agreed with itself are real
but silence numbs the talking self
and in a manner of speaking it can lose its words
or even temporarily forget how to talk altogether
this means in a way of speaking that it no longer understands its own rules
also any kind of SHOCK can stun the talking self into silence
some people have set out diberately looking to be shocked so that they may reach this silence
but such methods are dangerous of one is not thoroughly
familiar with the process
sometimes people use drugs for this purpose
but mostly people using drugs really just want to use drugs
so whatever they say about the benefits are fluff
i dont think mj is overly harmful but it does have a stuporous effect that becomes counterproductive at a point
for me it does anyway, i wont tell someone else what they experience
a more methodical and harmonious way, and especially an infinitely more enjoyable way
in addition to meditation
is to utilize ones dreams
in fact i can say that within the framework of this explanation
you probably have already begun to put some kind of emphasis on your dreams
or you have a natural affinity for dreaming (indicators of this would be
you dream that youre awake - usually this dream involves getting ready for ones day somehow- one example iz putting on clothes and shoes.
sometimes people dream all theway to work or school before they realize it was a dream
also and especially that you are aware that you are dreaming while youre dreaming
or that you dream
that youre having a dream
at the very least i can say that you have right now the opportunity to make a very good begining of dreaming practice
if youre interested type "lucid dreaming" into your search engine and see where that takes you
i betyou could use other searches like Power dreaming or shamanic dreaming also
i would recomend pursuing resources that dont take it too seriously
or rather that dont make it out to be overly important
breathing is very important and there are excellent and extraordinary things that can be accomplished with the appropriate understanding of breath
but no one should convince you that every waking moment must be dedicated to "proper" breathing
or that breathing makes you special in any way
its the same with dreams
theyre fun
go play
Lastly
within the framework of this explanation
i want to tell you that silence is something that you can accucumilate
every moment of genuine silence is stored somewhere in your body
or perhaps youd prefer to say in your mind but that can make an already confusing explanation even more confusing
so we usually say its stored in the body
because by the time we're able to use this silence
it wont matter of its stored in the body or in the mind
what matters is that it can be stored
theres no telling how much of it any particular person needs
but most of us need a lot
so relax
understand that youre doing well
but dont make a big deal out of it
just keep doing what youre doing and the pieces will fall in to place as you need them
and some advice

Yeah that's a good way to describe it. In shamanic journeys you travel away from your body and return back to it. When I don't make an effort to return (actually visually see myself traveling back from where I went) I get that cloudy headed feeling. The more practice the less detailed and less time the return takes for me.
If you're the visual sort, you can imagine gathering clouds (you/your thoughts) back to yourself. Or sheep or cats, whatever floats your boat. Just give yourself time to come back to this world

It sounds to me like you need to add Grounding Meditation to your morning routines more.

How would I go about doing this?
Also, responding to what OB1Shinobi said: I think I understand for the most part what you mean, as you said it is a confusing explanation but I think I got most of it. I was trying to write down my dreams for a good month and a bit but often times I would forget to write it down so eventually I stopped. Perhaps I should make it part of my morning meditation practice so that I can do it as much as possible.
I'm really grateful for all the advice from everyone else!! I'll definitely take it all into account

in my experience dream journals are cool from an analytical standpoint
but completely unnecessary beyond establishing the mental attitude that dreams have validity
and as an act of discipline which gives the self the implicit instruction to PAY ATTENTION
they can be very useful for those reasons
beyond those reasons all one does is give the chatterbox more stuff to chatter about
and the compulsion to document and record everything represents a dangerous sort of attatchment
once a person begins to open themselves up to the extraordinary nature of the dreaming experience
the best advice is to be playful
without very many difficult rules or restrictions
there is a wholesome discipline to everything
but beyond this be gentle with yourself
you will automatically be respectful of the things that are really important
what i do is this
in the morning i stay in whatever position im in when i wake up.
If im not still in my dreaming attention
then i just relax and wait
my mind will remember something of my dreams
I do my best to stay out of the way and just let my mind relive the dream experience
what i really would like to direct your attention to is what you can do, if you wish, BEFORE YOU SLEEP
so that you may participate with your dreaming attention
in a more pro active and even more exciting way
than merely recording and understanding ones dreams
to do this will will have the net effect of making your conversation with "the dreamer and the dreamed"
even more insigtful and more powerful than what youve done before
also within the context of this explanation it is the natural and appropriate next step for your understanding of the role that dreams play in your life
the resson you would quit with the dream journal ,
according to this explanation
is either because your mind resists the discipline
or
because your mind said
"ok im paying attention;
WHAT NEXT?"
the answer to that is Power Dreaming
or Playful Dreaming if you prefer
uze your dream journal to teach yourself to pay attention
but wht does one pay attention to?
the gist of it is this; train yourself to be aware that you are dreaming
train yourself to realize that you are in a dream
heres a question for you
since youre not usually aware that you are dreaming while you dream
how do you know this is not a dream right now?
this is not a question you need to answer to me
but a question it is good to ask oneself often
because by asking this question repeatedly
you ensure that eventually the answer will be "i am dreaming right now!"
the more seriously you ask yourself this question-the more you realize that the answer cannot be taken for granted, the quicker your results will be
