I ask this more out of curiosity than anything else, but just how many Jedi are in this world? Is there a way to find out? Of course we won't know EXACTLY, there may very well be "closet" Jedi that perhaps don't of the the Temple, but how many of us Do know?

There are alot
Temple of the Jedi Order is just one spot of several. Gathered Force Community has a new map. We are trying to get Jedi from all of the orders to register so that we can see our numbers on the map

It would be interesting to know the answer, but sadly I don't really see any way of obtaining one...
You could look at the active membership numbers of the well known-online (and offline...there are a few in the States) organisations and total them up...at a very rough guess I'm thinking you might find 1500 people or something...
Then you've got all the inactive members - people who have come to online organisations but drifted away again - there will be thousands and thousands of these but we've no way of knowing how many still consider themselves 'Jedi'.
And there are many people out there who consider themselves Jedi but choose to persue it as an individual path rather than joining an organisation, so we can't possibly know how many of those people exist.
And then another issue is what is even meant when one asks how many 'Jedi' there are - it means so many things to so many people - for instance, followers of Jediism are 'Jedi', but many Jedi are not followers of Jediism, and so on. I would guess that you're using 'Jedi' to mean something along the lines of 'anyone who calls themselves a Jedi', but if so, one always has to remember that it's a massive generalization and some people who do so will be hugely different from the perception of what it means to be a TOTJO 'Jedi'...
So, no, there isn't really any way of working it out - if you're interested to see how far the community extends my advice would be to pop into some of the other organisations and say hi, get chatting...it's interesting to meet other Jedi outside of TOTJO and see how they do things, because it is sometimes quite different!

When media people contact the Temple I normally tell them that there wouldn't be more than 5000 Jedi worldwide. For all the reasons V gave giving such a number is fraught with difficulties, but 5000 seems to be somewhere in the right region. When I give that number I presume that it is only people for whom being a Jedi is a serious consideration, and not just a "because it sounds cool" type of deal.
Anyone who quotes the census records however is making a mistake because Jedi don't number in the tens of hundreds of thousands.

If someone asked me I would give some absurdly specific number, like 6,427. Like we totally knew and were keeping tabs on all of them.

Along Desolous' line of thinking, if I were to be asked, I'd hold two fingers to my temple, close my eyes very tightly, and concentrate really hard. Then I would spit out a random number like '8,127... no wait, 8,128. Jedi are born every minute.'
In reality, it's like asking how many 'smart' people there are in the world. It is all relative and subjective. You'll never get an answer that everyone can even remotely agree on.
