Sashimi, actually. In that particular case, it's body was cut off while alive, and they pour shoyu (salty soy sauce) over it to watch it writhe and cringe in pain during a slow, drawn-out, cruel death for dinner entertainment...

the definition of sushi varies widely. i used to think it just meant food that could be eaten with your hands, and sashimi was just the meat only.

Sushi is a corruption of "sumeshi", meaning vinegared rice, which may or may not have raw fish on it (otherwise it may have seared fish, fish eggs, fried egg, seaweed, natto beans, or what have you) - sashimi is raw fish meat, or beef, or horse, or chicken, often served on shredded daikon radish. But yeah, it often can be alive. Come to think of it, there might be a different word here for still-living fish, though I can't remember... it's not often found here in Nagoya... perhaps nearby in Sakae...
