I've been meaning to create a discussion about this for a week or so...

Have many people here seen the film- 'Inglorius Basterds'?

I'm just interested in what people think about it... During the film I nervously laughed somewhat at some of the pretty brutal goings on as well as shaking my head at the hatred portrayed by the Nazis. It was interesting to see how hatred had managed to breed hatred as the team of (mostly) americans savagely killed many Nazis...

So my first questions are thus- how did you react while watching the film? And how did you feel afterwards?
The other questions are- If you could go back in time and kill Hitler would you do it? Would you feel glad or remorseful if you did it?

In this conversation I was having I came to admit that I wasn't hateful of the Nazis. They were men, the same as you and I and although they did some horrible acts they could still love their wives and children. We generally alienate Nazis and put them to an extreme away from us. But to say that I or you would never do the same as a Nazi seems ignorant and false because if we were in that system at that time, I imagine that yes we could have done some horrible acts towards Jews without much remorse. So I might be blaming that system more than the man so I'd like to suggest that history shows that man can have a violent nature.

Another question comes to mind- who are the Nazis of today? As in- who do you alienate? Chavs? Gypsies? Muslims from ISIS?

All of this somehow reminds me of Krishnamutri talking of how we should not only be responsible for ourselves but for the rest of mankind as well- so what does that mean in this context?

Feel free to add your thoughts, answer whichever questions I came up with and hope people find some insight in themselves or from others in the thread

Have a nice day and/or night guys and gals

I saw it but I think I spent the vast majority of the time thinking 'none of this plot makes sense to me'.

It was interesting to see how hatred had managed to breed hatred as the team of (mostly) americans savagely killed many Nazis...

This is how so many Germans did things they probably wouldn't otherwise have done.. group mentality.. people will 'go along' because others are even if it goes against their sensibilities. The more you hear something said, the more you start believing it might be true.

Another question comes to mind- who are the Nazis of today? As in- who do you alienate? Chavs? Gypsies? Muslims from ISIS?

I personally try not to alienate anyone... but it is very difficult to understand the actions of people like ISIS. I say people... because I don't believe religion really has much to do with it..

People like to throw names like 'chav' around because it means they don't have to see or take responsibility for what is happening. It puts up a barrier between 'us' and 'them', when really it is just all 'us'.

It won't let me have a blank signature ...

I laughed my @$$ off at the over the top unabashed dark comedic nature of the film...afterwards I thought it was a well made hilarious movie. It was filled with satire...

Now the nazis...my grandparents fled germany because they refused to support hitler's regime...and if you weren't with him, you were against him. As a result my family has a particular disliking of them...

If I could go back in time would I go back and kill him?

If one could go back, why not go further back and either persuade him to act differently...or go back further and prevent his conception...why kill when one could simply prevent...

We have plenty of hate groups today...why choose just one...

I don't have time to answer all your questions, but I would like to say that there was only one Nazis. Even modern day Nazis are referred to as Neo-Nazis because they don't have the distinction that Nazis of the early 20th Century have. Yes, they were just people, but we should be all the more appalled because of that fact. The soldiers were not monsters, inhuman killing machines, but people--some of whom probably had families--and that should make us ask a lot of questions about how human beings can commit such atrocities against other human beings.

Yes, people today are doing some very horrible things, but it is not simply the same. We should be cautious about making the comparison because we can easily slip into the reductionist mentality that conflates one atrocity with another and fails to recognize the unique political and socio-historical power relations at play in each specific one.

Well Hitlers mother was raped so unless you want to go back in time and punch a woman in the stomach....
Hitler was Hitler not because of his beliefs but because he was charming and charismatic... He held none of these ideals until he met with a certain man who persuaded him to become the leader of the Nazi party.. What happened after means that if not Hitler than someone else surely would have taken his place.. The result of a tenious tired and broken country looking for someone to blame can not be fixed with the killing of one man but with the saving of the man whose death started ww1..
Id like to point out that some planes flew into some of our buildings (mainly Americas fault) and in response we go to a country that is not even supporting the terroists because of wmds...which we find none..Meanwhile Islamic people in our country are persecuted not by the law but by every day people...Very easily could have been another Holocoust had the right linch pins been pulled or another charismatic leader taken us down a different path..

A forced abortion (punching a woman in the stomach) is not the only way to prevent conception...one could just as easily prevent the rape...or father the child themself...which would result in a completely different person...yes the party might have found another charismatic leader...might....but it would have likely taken time...
My brother is one of those idiot "neo nazis" so I deal with that idiocy all the time and I see how the right leader can motivate and how the wrong leader causes stagnation...

Vusuki: ,,Another question comes to mind- who are the Nazis of today? As in- who do you alienate? Chavs? Gypsies? Muslims from ISIS?'',,If you could go back in time and kill Hitler would you do it?''

''I wonder why you want to know where the Nazi are today''.. quite interesting question..

People seek for other people to blame them for things they have done. In time of the Nazi, it were the people of the Jewish faith. Nazi are gone. If you seek for people with the same ideas you will find them if you search.
The reason to blame a other is like having some kind of question inside, like not expecting that a other human reacts in a different way. Like not being able to see the responsibility inside him/her. A great deal of confusion on both sides..

Do not get me wrong on this part, I can not say if Hitler was right, if he was wrong. What he did could be seen as act of horror, I do not have the right words for it I guess..
However, the first and second world war gave us a new way of thinking.. lessons that we have learned.. Maybe we could have learned those lessons in other, more human friendly ways.. I do not know, but I would not change history because one man did something.
The first two world wars brought to the bone touched feelings of sadness, anger and more.. I was not there in this live so I guess that I have a more neutral look on it than survivor of a world war. Changing something, on words of others.. I do not see the complete picture. Besides that I do not know if I would like to have such a power..

A power beyond intended.. a unnatural action, If I could change something in the past I do not know if I could live with such a power could you live with a power like that? :(

The problem with going back in time (theoretically of course) is the fact that by doing something like preventing Hitler's birth, you could inadvertantly set of events that could cause a worse leader to rise... going back in time would only set off a change of events you couldn't forsee.

Time will come and time will go
Time shall reap what time has sown

Time comes slowly, time goes fast
Time comes first, never the last

Time sees all, time knows best
Time remembers, time never forgets

Time will hide, time will reveal
Time will open, what time has seal

Time brings hope, time brings fear
Time brings distance, time brings near

Time will help, time will cure
Time will shine, bringing good for sure

We forget about time, yet it's all we know
In time, there is everything, and time will show
