This has been entertaining me all day :D

What does the Ngram Viewer do?

When you enter phrases into the Google Books Ngram Viewer, it displays a graph showing how those phrases have occurred in a corpus of books (e.g., "British English", "English Fiction", "French") over the selected years.

My partner and I have been looking up different words. And it's interesting to see the usage over time. You can see the rise of words and we've been speculating at some of the reasons for the peaks. You can see the decline of others as other words take their place or they fall out of use or favor.

Jedi has a few blips before the late 1970s. I wonder if it was a name for something else or a glitch in scanning in the books.

Faith and church seem to have a similar decline but meditation has an interesting flow. Honor has some odd peaks, I wonder why. And I didn't realize terrorism was used as much as it was in the mid '70s, early '80s! And oddly sword has had a recent increase.

Anyways, I just wanted to share! I have a fascination with words and their history! I'd love to see what words catch your attention :D
