The mundane to the sublime!

Inspired by tzb's sermon "Sword and Bow" on 14th of July 2014 I have just mindfully hung the washing on the line. A task that I usually find mundane became sublime. The repetition of clothes and pegs became meditative, the sun was just starting to feel hot but there was a gentle breeze, the buzz of insects combined with the birds singing in the trees and the sound of wind chimes...peace. I even managed to avoid breaking a spiders web that was attached to the line.

Many of us talk about mindfulness but in our busy lives it can be easier said than done. We can all start by being mindful during one seemingly mundane task so that it becomes the sublime experience it truly is. I think it would be interesting and inspiring to read about other peoples experiences so what supposedly mundane task has become sublime for you after undertaking it in true mindfulness?

I agree. The repetition and simplicity of the task would work as a perfect base for some peaceful gathering of thoughts. It would work much as walking a long distance would. Step after step, peg after peg, breath after breath meditative pondering could work very effectively, even in the rush of everyday life.

I did this yesterday and I have to say I very much agree with you.

@ Psyddhattha...

I have a similar experience when ironing. And I will get lost looking at the lines of outfits, material and pressed in seems and just keep ironing and ironing. I end up with some pieces of clothing that get REALLY pressed. :P
