Yeah, I want to emphasize the clinical aspect of the term homosexual. Homosexual was the term psychiatrists used to categorized same-sex activity and people were actually carted off to asylums for being "homosexual". It's more than just the fact that religious bigots use the term homosexual and refuse to refer to gay and lesbians by the preferred terms, but the fact that the term homosexual is quite literally a term that dehumanizes people who have same-sex attraction.

Yes, if heterosexual was a term used to diagnose people who were sexually active with people of the opposite sex as mentally ill. Heterosexual is indeed a clinical term, but it has never been used with quite the same discriminatory power as homosexual.

Words describe. put a name on a thing. The discrimination wasn't done by the word.
