We need more of this. Too many kids are being given trophies for "participation" and told that they are "special". We are also constantly feeding them lines about social/economic equality that just isn't true.
People are not all the same and we do not have the same abilities. I get laughed off the basketball court, but I'm a decent hockey player. I also happen to be from a white upper middle class family. Stereotype or not, it's my reality, and it makes me more likely to succeed at hockey than basketball.
I also worked hard to gain the necessary skills to play hockey well. I haven't practiced basketball a day in my life. You get out what you put in, not what you're "supposed to".
High school is the hell fire that tests who you are and who you will become as a person later in life. It sucks for everybody, and teenagers are mean. The sooner we stop sugarcoating the world for kids, the better.
Can you tell I wasn't one of the "cool kids" in high school?

Not so sure about this....
While there was some truth in there, which of course makes it funny...
Like the recent fun being made of the Disney princesses, there is that note of pessimism too...
That just makes it sad...
Anyway...

Interesting satire here. Like Jestor points out, its very pessimistic, and so, probably is not to be taken as an accurate explanation on things.

The comic medium does not necessarily make it a joke. It was chosen by the author to soften the edge on some pretty cutting satire and serious topics.

Granted, some of his stuff is lighter too. I just like that he makes people think.

I agree. I don't think it's meant to be agreed with or disagreed with.
The comic is made to give you something "different" to think about, while not putting it in a dreary philosophy book nobody wants to read. In this way, I find it a very effective work of art.
It struck me, and I had to stop and actually wonder if I agreed with it.
I love that in works like these.

Jedi Knight
The self-confidence of the warrior is not the self-confidence of the average man. The average man seeks certainty in the eyes of the onlooker and calls that self-confidence. The warrior seeks impeccability in his own eyes and calls that humbleness. The average man is hooked to his fellow men, while the warrior is hooked only to infinity.

I see the dinosaur as what the world will tell us it is if we let it. Yes, there is a tendency for those who love us to whitewash life - sometimes the pendulum swings too far that way and what was meant to be a positive expression of love transforms into entitlement or an irreconcilable dissonance. The key is striking a balance somewhere in that Focault Pendulum. At the risk of fraying the edges of the metaphor, I'll conclude.

The fact that it's a satirical comic aside, my feeling is that opinions on this topic can be boiled down to an individual's view of the universe... specifically, whether we approach the world optimistically or pessimistically.
I'm with Jestor. It made me sad. Truth coated with pessimism doesn't make logical (or practical) sense to me. I find that the way I view something in my mind affects the reality of that something dramatically, so I choose to acknowledge the negative and focus on empowering the positive.
We all experience truth differently, and I recognize that some people see the process of (actively or subconsciously) filtering information in a manner that encourages a positive outlook as harmful and unnecessary. I imagine this is a big part of why there will always be dividing thoughts on statements like those made in the comic.
