Angel Side, Meet Devil Side.

I think people do good just for the betterment of mankind. I do see some people who only do it to look good, but I have definitely met people that do it just out of love. Men definitely die for a cause greater than themselves. That is a good act. Joseph Campbell tells of the police man in Hawaii who nearly died from falling off a bridge because he tried to save the life of a man he didnt know. The young man was jumping, the cop tried to save him and his collegue had to pull both of them up. The cop who jumped said that he would not have been able to live another day if he had not tried to save the other man. He connected with the Force, he realized he was one with the man. He had no ulterior motive for jumping, if anything he probably expected to die. Theres more to it than simply human desire I think.
Also, stealing is never right people just try to justify it. I feel like you are giving more of like a definition of the mainsteam Western world right now and that is not the direction our race should be going. We are capable of experiencing a lot more than what is "accepted' there are just a lot of things we cant explain and instead of embracing that as I do (and almost all humans used to do) society refuses to acknowledge it.
Who said goodness or badness is a matter of purity? Someone who tries and does not always succeed is often described as being good.
What would really interest me, is how did you know that some people who do good did it to look good, or out of love? Because they said so, or through some accompanying emotional outburst, or because you could see deep down into the recesses of their souls?
Did the young man want to be saved? What ever drove the young man to try to take his life, he now has to confront that, and probably alone. Did the cop take that responsibility or whilst wallowing in heroic satisfaction did he drop the man? Why did the cop have a bad conscience if he had not saved the young man? Is it not strange that after saving that man there is no further mention of his well being. Dropped like a hot potato, we admire the hero. How do you know there was any anterior motive to the officer helping?
Stealing is never right!?! Well it is interesting to hear Buddha killed a man on a boat, and justified that by explaining that he saved the lives of the others.

Light or dark are labels we place to give understanding they are not true things.
I am both an angel and a devil, it's what makes me, me

I dunno I just made that up. We all fear death and bodily harm because our bodies produce pain when injured. So we fear things that produce pain. Yo could flip it around and say the devil is pain and the angel is relief. Overcome all pain and embrace all relief? Alka seltzer anyone?benedictveritas wrote: why is the angel side fear ?

There is no thing to fear . . it is fear itself that is called the dark, the evil, the devil, the enemy. . .It is a universal and primal experience. So many stories that are accepted. . . No one is exempt . . there is compassion for that which is that which is the same. . . . step step step . . a process . . sinking into the heat . . practical, palpable, valuable, useful . . .doable . .
There is no need to seek the dark . . . it will come by human nature . . .

In the Catholic church (which much of western society will agree recognizes the existence of angels) has a long, and still in use, tactic of fear. I am about to use gross over simplifications!!! Do this or God will be mad, do that or you’ll spend time in purgatory, don’t do that and burn in hell… all throughout the dark ages the church used the sale of indulgences to lessen the burden of purgatory one’s soul might encounter in the afterlife. And used the fear of God and his wrath to promote such sales. Angels are the minions of God, doing his bidding in accordance with his wishes. The Angel of Death which smote all the first born during the time of the Israelites captivity is just one example. Even in the Bible angels are described as beautiful and terrifying creatures and people wept, trembled and feared their presence. So according to the religion that favors angels highly, how could they not invoke fear?
Death is often seen as a “sweet release” in popular literature. Devils are often associated with death.
Speaking of Devils… I was just playing Devil’s advocate. Looking at things from a different angle.
