Asking Questions. was created by
Hello,

I come today to you with another (hopefully) useful message.

Let's take this opportunity to take the "silence, and refrain" one step further. There is a system (kind of New Agey.. based off of Scientology) called Access Consciousness. Whatever you think of these semi-cultish groups, some of the teachings they give are interesting and useful. I found one particular teaching most applicable to those not in the system:

Asking questions. Now, this may seem like an obvious thing to you, but to some it might not. When we do not know the answer to something, we generally ask a question to clear up the un-obvious. But, have you ever stopped to ask your body something? Have you ever gotten up really tired and asked: "Hey, body, why the hell am I so tired?"

You may be surprised to find the answer. Why? Because you are focusing your energy on it. These types of questions can be very important. "Do I have cancer?" or, "Should I see a doctor for this?"

Sometimes, we IGNORE big problems in our lives. We let things go... We don't focus on them. And, by that measure, how can we ever hope to grow from the situation?

When you are looking for answers, you must first ask the right questions.

You cannot ignore these questions and hope for answers.

Let's try another exercise, my fellow TOTJOians. If you feel yourself searching for an answer to something, ask the right questions. And, more importantly, ask YOURSELF the right questions.

Give yourself the focus it takes to find the answers. Don't half-heartedly do anything.

Couldn't agree more :D

Reminds me of the character Vergere who told my namesake, "Ask yourself. Where else can one look?"

There's really nothing else I can say about this.

It's appalling how so many refuse to listen to themselves. I guess we think of it as "instinct" sometimes, but I find that to be a little cruder than what I'm going for. I'm looking for something purer and basic. Something essential to all beings, beyond instinct.

I'm glad it's so clear to so many.

I'd still say that in some cases our bodies and our minds tend to deceive us or at least give us demonstrably wrong answers. So while in most cases, when something hurts, that's because something is wrong, it is still rarely big of a mistake to get some intersubjective verification when it comes to questions that can be answered by others, too. Especially when it comes to medical conditions and other relevant and real things, consulting a doctor (or the respective specialist) and valuing his opinion over that of a layman must be prioritized over 'listening to oneself/the affected'.

Better to leave questions unanswered than answers unquestioned

Please don't focus on my bad example. I was only trying to use something simple people could relate to.

If you're thinking too much, then yes, you will be deceived.
