What is Justice?
I believe that if you wrong a person, there is no way to truly justify that or make it equal. Seems to me there is no justice at all, only vengeance if people think you're an asshole according to their criteria. And only mercy if you're decent to the same criteria.

According to legal definition. justice is fair.
Mercy is you being at the power. So is vengeance but mercy more so.
It's not balanced at all. The result afterwards is a clean slate, sure. But justice is accountability and shit. You aren't being held accountable for your actions nor is anything you did improving the situation from the damage you caused. I guess in terms of the paradigm of "power" you could claim justice. They took the power, you take it back ( I wrote bake at first... cookies.. not mari- nevermind). Though I'd say justice would be giving the power back.

I mean that quite literally.
We all do things that eventually turn the scales. Justice is supposed to keep us all on the same level. I think that people inaccurately use justice as justification for acts of violence and pain. However, true justice leaves the situation resolved for all, and resolved fairly.

The image of Lady Justice blindfolded, with the scales balanced, comes to mind...

Part of the seduction of most religions is the idea that if you just say the right things and believe really hard, your salvation will be at hand.

This is founded in anger and hate.
I don't think Justice can exist on the micro (individual) level. The best we can do is create Social Justice, a world where people are treated with honour and respect, where resources are distributed fairly and there is no need for people to turn to crime.
Then when crime does occur, in a well-balanced society, we can recognise and treat it, segregating "wrongdoers" for the safety of society whilst re-educating and treating any mental disorder/instability.
Or we stick with revenge, and pretend that's justice.

I have absolutely no idea what your trying to say here.

As far as I can tell, justice is nothing more than polite vengeance (or revenge) for some offence. Real justice would be to create a situation where said offence was never felt to be needed or done. Does that mean we try to create a utopian society, be less easily offended or try to understand the situation?
I honestly have no idea.
I do know that the only time I want “justice” done is when I am upset, annoyed or angered at something. The rest of the time I try to see things from all perspectives and not judge accordingly but understand.
Can one really “pay” for some offence? I don’t really think so. But if one is going to harm others they should be stopped. How do we do that? Again, I honestly have no idea.
