And secondly for many years now the US has been looking outside to try and help/protect/feed/solve problems/guard the rest of the world and stopped looking inside for its people, guess it is time to stop looking outside and start looking inside, forget Siria, just look outside on your neighborhood and start helping each other again, and from that start a greater you can get to be again the greatest place.
I tried doing this when I came back to the US from abroad. I was kind of shocked at what I saw. I tried to explain to my sister that she shouldn't shop at Walmart because their goods come from slave-labour. So she just resented me and joked about how you can't take me with you if you're going shopping. It's like that. I was just being myself and trying to help her. You know, I showed her how to compost her waste food and she just blew me off. I showed her how to use paper instead of plastic so not so much goes to the landfill and she never ever got paper bags even though she knew better.I showed her how to save money, consume less, and not impact the environment. In the end she asked me to leave and we haven't spoken since. She kicked her only brother out of her house and made me homeless so she wouldn't have to be bothered with providing housing for her family and be reminded by our actions to improve locally.
The truth is, and it's sad and I hate saying this, but the truth is that Americans are selfish. I think for every one person I knew that was good there were 100 that were bad. So it's not as easy as it sounds to go start local and help your neighbors. Where I live now my neighbor comes out with a gun and chases you off his "private" road if you even try to go there. Another neighbor only talks to me when she wants to come yell at me for walking my dogs without a leash near her house because she has an attack dog that's not on a leash and she doesn't want to get sued or some BS.
