What am I in the Now?
You are not the pain, the pain happens, yes, acknowledge it, yes, then let it go...
I find it interesting you use the same word I did..."observe"...
Once you separate the two, life gets easier to live, lol... Not necessarily physically, nor is it all sunshine and rainbows...
It is the acceptance, the surrender to life, that 'shit is gonna happen', and all you can do, is roll with it, accept it, and move on...

Excuse the language..

As to love?
Tolle wrote: I was going to ask: What about positive emotions such as love and joy?
They are inseparable from your natural state of inner connectedness with Being. Glimpses of
love and joy or brief moments of deep peace are possible whenever a gap occurs in the
stream of thought. For most people, such gaps happen rarely and only accidentally, in
moments when the mind is rendered "speechless," sometimes triggered by great beauty,
extreme physical exertion, or even great danger. Suddenly, there is inner stillness. And
within that stillness there is a subtle but intense joy, there is love, there is peace.
Of course, he does say more, but, this is a portion of it...

Wescli...
Time has been an obsession of mine since I was a kid...
And, so much comes off of time...
I had clocks and watches and stuff everywhere, lol...
And, I tried to have them all synced to the millisecond, lol... Wow, you should seen me sometimes trying to get my exact NOW!! moment for the clocks to line up...
I was a kid, so I laugh at myself, wait, I still laugh at my self, but now for other reasons...
I was obsessed by time... Crazily obsessed... Finally, I realized I couldnt sync all of them up like I wanted, so I gave up the 'close enough'...
Other illusions of life combined to show me at a very young age that all of life is perception...
My life, sigh, has pages and pages of things to share surrounding this... I am bored with it, lol...
So, I am done speaking of it... MY life, not the subject of the NOW...

basically, there are countless things happening in the Universe ...
... it is alive and vibrant right now
and each of us is in the "going on"
***
good way of describing the pain, MaƮtre Jestor :
recognise it for what it is ; don't "become" it
let it pass like the weather ...

In the book he talks about removing the influence of the "pain body". Residual emotional pain we identify with, that negatively affects us as well as the impact of our past on how we define ourselves as people. So the question is...
If I am no longer my pain, my past, what am I?
You were never pain, pain was only an experience. Let go of the pain and the past. Don't revisit the pain.
There is nothing else but now. Now is everything. You are now living in the now.
You are now, not the past, not the future...you are now.

In the beginning of the book, TOlle says, he liked the Buddha's definition of enlightenment...
Tolle wrote: I love the Buddha's simple definition of enlightenment as "the end of suffering." There is nothing superhuman in that, is there? Of course, as a definition, it is incomplete. It only tells you what enlightenment is not: no suffering. But what's left when there is no more suffering?
The Buddha is silent on that, and his silence implies that you'll have to find out for yourself.
He uses a negative definition so that the mind cannot make it into something to believe in or
into a superhuman accomplishment, a goal that is impossible for you to attain.
And, that is exactly what Rickie just did...
As did I...
He didnt tell you what you are...
He told you what you are not...
What/who you are is for you to decide...

It is like trying to follow the trail back to the source...
Well, Im not a tree, check...
Not a dog, check...
Not a female (in my case;)), check...
Not only a father, check...
Not only a husband, check...
Am not the feeling of "happy", check...
Not the feeling of anger, check...
etc, etc...
When you get through it all, you find out, you are the observer of all these things...
