I have been out of formal education for 13 years, so I for one am glad of the basic and gradual nature of the IP course material. It gives me new insights whilst easing me back into study at my own pace while I keep up with my job and family. Plus, I get to meet all of you lovely folk. What could be better?

I have a question about Lesson 6: World Religions
I understand that this lesson is about looking at other religions so that we can fully understand how their beliefs may or may on coincide with our own, but as the assignment is written, I could easily jump over to Wikipedia and regurgitate a bunch of stuff into my journal and call it a day. I would much rather delve into each of the listed religions and discuss which parts work for my journey, and which parts don't. For me, it would be a much better assignment and I think that it would be more helpful in my own journey.

I'll admit I had these thoughts as well. I tried to explain in my journal what I think the point of the lesson was, but perhaps there should be a section in the IP that requires some kind of discussion about it?

Is there something preventing you from writing a supplemental entry with an analysis of these religions and what parts of them have relevance to you as a Jedi? Perhaps I'm just being obtuse, but that was not what I took from the lesson and while I can understand some people might want to take certain aspects of other religions and apply them to Jediism, that just didn't register as a reason for why I was doing some basic research into these religions.
I will point out however that for lesson six the instructions are to find out the fundamental principles and the liturgy, but most people just write a bit about the basic principles of each religion without talking about the liturgy. I tried to write a bit about the liturgy but that only went so far as the Abrahamic faiths.

What may be most useful to the Jedi would be to identify some of these fundamental principles and perhaps some of the liturgy and then delve into the mythic dimension of current religious traditions to find the underlying myths beneath the 'principle' and what myths the liturgy would be conveying (what myths the ritual would be re-enacting) in order to bring about the transcendental experience of the devotees.
This would not be saying that this is what happens to everyone (or even to a majority) but there is a reason why that lesson follows the Myth, Meditation and Connexions lessons ...
This is only a suggestion. I wouldn't know ...

What is useful to one, may not be useful to another...
If I remember right, I did some copy/paste, but then also talked about what I thought about what I learned...
But, at that point, as now, i really am not too worried about the other religions, lol...
Someone who finds that stuff fascinating, will put much more into it, and, get much more out of it, than I did...
But I may get more out of another section....

novices, just a reminder bump that this is a thing. in addition to LTK's 10 person novice group, and my own 6 person group providing closer supervision, this thread can serve as a place where you can simply...bounce ideas around, ask for some advice, etc, from anyone, be they other novices, apprentices, knights.
