Fun video. Sounds like Radical Transparency tied into some type of Transhumanism . I like the idea of the latter, but am not sure of the viability of the former.... but I guess evolution of manufacturing will get to a point where sums of capital are not required to take design from intellectual vision to material reality. Otherwise markets might keep the tendency to adjust around emerging market demands, because it seems the market just loves getting new and shiny things before anyone else.

It reminds me of someone discovering cyberpunk..... blending computing, materials and genetics into cutting edge applications and struggling to free it to the world away from profiteering corporations, but then most everything does these days. I was watching some old Star Trek TV episode the other day, perhaps a Deep Space Nine, and I swear they were using an iPad!?

This brought so many things to mind as I watched - some of which aren't directly related with what he was getting at. How thoughts (ideas) are energy and how they influence the world around us, etc.

I enjoyed this, Connor. Thank you for posting it.

Adder, I saw something you might like.

I do like it. But, will the universe ever be at our fingertips? Isn't not the opposite, with us being at the fingertips of the universe? Lots of pretty words.. "Mankind is a bridge and not an end" is lovely. It seems to me like he suggests the quicker evolution is, the better? It almost encourages one to rush ahead to discover sometimes, which I wonder whether a good thing. Maybe it's all part of the educational process... Kids touch flame and then learn it's dangerous, :p Interesting though, thanks

I think that's tearing apart his argument. lol. You don't really need to think of it as us owning the universe, but rather us learning to see more and more of the universe as time goes on. His "mankind" quote is a Nietzsche paraphrase. http://praxeology.net/zara.htm

I guess it's less about rushing forward and more buying into the extremely fast growth we've been seeing in the last 150 years.

At what point, then, do we realize that the realm of ideas, though powerful, has yet to defeat hunger, disease, and overpopulation? I love the evolution of ideas, so long as the ideas are driven to ways to better the world and not just the few who can afford to implement them.

As to the reverse, people have to want change in order to embrace it!

True, radical could seem to imply on the edge of losing control, or at least amazing and unexpected.

Intelligent growth would need some focus. The NASA Aeronautics Division released its latest strategy recently, they've chosen;

Transformative - Continue to work near-term challenges as stepping stones for broader sustainable and transformative aviation.

Sustainable - Explore the application of more intelligent systems and low carbon approaches to reducing costs and improving safety to achieve truly sustainable aviation.

Global - Develop solutions to make commercial supersonic light over land possible, and investigate the potential for technology convergence that leads to on-demand, widespread, and fully autonomous private light to transform aviation and global mobility.

So I think the drive/focus is for creativity, whilst being mindful/knowledge of the wider operating environment (including nature), to achieve wide ranging improvements (wisdom!?).

NASA Aero Div. Policy Launch

Perhaps a Radical Openness version could be Transformative, Sustainable and Accessible.

Interesting, how the time gap between fantasy and reality has shrunk.

Provocative, how will it affect our future? ............

Yeah, so your a glass half empty kind of person?

Really, lets not use newer, safer medical techniques, or materials or lets just ignore all the positive contributions scientists make every day.

Science and technology, is all about taking the next step that others have started, and taking new unexplored steps as well, and of course there is the possibility of risk, but should fear of failure or the negative stop us from exploring forward?

Why is there no humility in that? Where is the lack of discipline? You honestly think its that easy to do things like clone a human heart? Create an Iphone? You think because they build off of pre-existing models and ideas and took the next step they had to apply no discipline or hard work?

As for the not taking responsibility...well, since y,all are simply standing on the shoulders of George Lucas and a bunch of other philospher(ies) read what others have done and are taking evolutionary steps in this path are you somehow not responsible for your own actions? Do you lack humiity?

Your right. Lets just stay stagnant. Its much safer that way and then we wont have to experience the good or the bad.
