Need help with a quote

Found this quote and need help deciphering it:
We need more light about each other. Light creates understanding, understanding creates love, love creates patience, and patience creates unity. ~Malcolm X

I can understand it intuitively but it still doesn't make sense.

We need more [light, understanding, tolerance, love, patience, etc] about each other. [light, understanding, tolerance, love, patience, etc] creates understanding, understanding creates love, love creates patience, and patience creates unity.

My guess of where the misunderstanding may come from is the beginning of the quote where he mentions light.

I view “light” as in reference to the story of the blind men and the elephant. Imagine if the blind men could see with their eyes what their hands had experienced… what would their description be?

“Light is a tool which can illuminate truth in the darkness.”

If people could view the world in this “light” how many of the misconceptions and half truths would melt away? And what would we be left with? I think this is a good quote for Jedi and would think there would be a copy of it in the Imperishable Gem topic… hint, hint.
