Thanks for all the advice. On the one hand you can fight, on the other you can give up. I suppose the deciding factor would be whether it's a fight that can be won. Perhaps getting asylum is a win-win? I can go on with my life and voice my objections to tyranny. Can I change the gov't? no, I've tried. Can I change the beliefs of others? maybe. Will I be able to change enough people's beliefs to win? probably not.

So what countries would grant asylum? I already know Canada is out and so is most of the EU because they're all buddies with the US...

You could always Mountain Man it up. Get some survival gear and live in nature...off the grid and fancy free. ;) I jest, but at the same time I'm tempted to do it.

Also, love the picture of The Dude.

Desolous wrote: you are preaching to the choir somewhat. however, to return to the $ question, there is no 'cant be bought' if you 'cant be elected'.

'In congressional races in 2010, the candidate who spent the most won 85 percent of the House races and 83 percent of the Senate races.'

that is not democracy. that is pay to play. that is men and women raising millions of dollars for a position that pays at most $400,000 a year (that is the presidents). you have to ask yourself why, ultimately. and i just dont feel like it actually is out of the goodness of their hearts, or desire for change, or whatever other bs is spouted on the campaign trail, especially when most leve office with millions more in investment income, cushy lobbyist jobs lined up, etc. but they all know their lines. we have pollsters now that now how to spin particular sentences, create buzzwords, specifically to manipulate a group of people to think positively or negatively on a particular position or candidate.

this is so far from what the founding fathers had in mind, jefferson must be spinning in his grave.

sure, this $ effect is not as pronounced at the city level. but even there, it comes down more to name recognition than anything else, and that is usually who can afford the most advertising.

I hear ya, it is a money game. But I also know that you CAN get elected with little money...in certain towns. I'm in a town of about 70,000 people and I know two people who were elected and they did not spend much money at all. They just knew a lot of people and had enough people willing to volunteer to put signs up and knock on doors. And I agree about the name recognition thing, but all these tricks people use to get elected can be used to your advantage too.

But, yeah, I don't trust our politicians either. Hehehe, you say politician in my house and all anyone hears is liar. But I have hope that there are some good people involved. I know there are some locally...I just hope there are a few nationally as well.

Oh and, Dave, the laws regarding Marijuana ticks me off to no end. I just hope that when it finally becomes legal (and I'd bet money it will) that everyone convicted gets a pardon...because that's just the dumbest thing. It's a natural plant. How could it be illegal!!!

Life isn't much better in Russia or China.

You can flee to a smaller country but the smaller countries are always subject to the will of the stronger nations. They have no real military might to defend themselves.

I am not sure which is better, to be in a weak country that can be bent to the will of any stronger country, or live in a stronger country where you have less civil liberties, rights and freedoms.

It's a tough question to answer, I would like to leave the USA as well, but then your just a member of a weak nation subject to the will of the USA, Russia and or China, I wonder if it's worth it.

being shouted down whenever I voice opposition to the wars;
being searched 5 times per flight when I travel;
being denied entry to Canada because my arrest record has false shit and the courts won't remove it because it's "traffic related" or whatever BS excuse they could find;
being treated like shit for being Muslim via marriage;
living under the threat of my home being invaded by the DEA if I get the medical marijuana my doctor authorized;
living with the stigma of a medical condition;
being labeled a domestic terrorist for sympathizing with OWS, anonymous, wikileaks, freemen, etc;
getting fired for using Linux(yes that has happened to me several times);
being denied basic human rights like healthcare, legal representation, etc because I'm poor and refuse to play the money game;
being labeled a terrorist for sympathizing with anarchism;
being labeled a terrorist for sympathizing with communism;

I mean DAMN! Whose shit list am I on and how do I get off? I left the US for 4 years and had no problems whatsoever with the police, the gov't, the people, my beliefs. I come back to the US and it's all persecution all day every day. The only way to avoid it is to NEVER leave my house. Even when I go outside to work in the yard I have to wonder why helicopters and small aircraft ALWAYS fly over when I go outside.

I hear people talking about things not being right, being fed up with the way things are and needing to trust in the system.

Ice cream… One of the simplest comfort foods. What are the ingredients to ice cream? Real Ice cream has sugar, milk, vanilla, and cream. At the right temperature and stirred for the right amount of time you get… Ice cream. The good stuff has the least amount of ingredients. The cheap stuff that is covered with coupons; the list of ingredients is long. They have things like seaweed, whey and other items I can’t even pronounce.

What does any of this have to do with the topic of being repressed?

What we all crave is something real. What gives us the best feeling is something real. The more real something is the less “ingredients” it has!

What do people want to feel happy in their daily live; freedom. What do people want to feel comforted and true in their spiritual live; Spirit. Not the process, not the plan and not what others think.

We want to be able to have faith in our lives, our religion and our convictions. Only when we add all the other stuff does our “Ice cream” become less premium, less palatable.

Fear is a choice. Danger is real, but rather we fear it is our choice. To most problems there is a simple answer. Faith and action. The task may be long and arduous, but the answer is relatively simple.

I do not sympathies with you. Not because I am uncaring, but because I have never been in that situation. I am compassionate toward you and your plight! And I will help in any way I can; but, I can not sympathies.

Right now you know what you need to do to effect change, and we all effect change with every action we take or don’t take. Keep you ice cream simple! That is the best kind after all, and be comforted knowing your friends are you allies; and, here to support you. ;)

No extradition treaty between US and France. Besides, France is the US' oldest ally but they're never gonna suck it up to anyone who consumes "imitation american cheese" :D

I'm not worried about being extradited. My concern is getting political asylum. Many countries deem the US as safe, free from tyranny, etc. Many of them outright reject all asylum applications from US citizens.

You should be. When they want something (or someone), they get it. No asylum status is going to protect you if you're in a country that does't have the guts to say "screw you".
