This is not just about sexuality. Given, this is what we could call a composite true story - this stuff happens. But not just to teenagers and not just heteros against homos (or the inverse). This message is especially tailored for that particular type of discrimination. It happens otherwise.

Often, it is the individuals within the same 'group' that exclude, that cast the insult and perpetuate the violence. In the past several years, it has always been other gay men who have made me feel worse about myself than any interaction with heterosexuels.

The message of this film was well delivered. It would be better taken though from the standpoint that any time anyone (or any group) makes a person feel excluded from love, sub-human or just 'too unique to love', that hurts. Enough of this kind of wounding may very likely be mortal.

I find it a bit hard to connect with this film. It all seems a bit extreme and makes it less believable.

I don't know. I thought the actors did a great job and I felt sad for the little girl...and I don't usually emotionally invest in movies.

I think it was believable because some people do get treated that way. They haven't been taught that basing your self worth on what others think is a bad thing to do. And if you're a little kid getting picked on at school and nobody listens or cares, and you think your parents might hate who you are on the inside too...well that's big. And that can definitely push you over the edge.

I don't think that little girl was weak. Her character was just young and never got a chance to understand the world, herself, and what love really is.
