Here's one of my favorite quotes by Marcus Aurelius:
“Nothing happens to anybody which he is not fitted by nature to bear.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
You're going to kick this thing's butt!
We are all the sum of our tears. Too little and the ground is not fertile, and nothing can grow there. Too much, the best of us is washed away. -- J. Michael Straczynski, Babylon 5

Thank you everyone who has reached out. I know I have been quiet on this thread, and I hope it is understood that I'm a little overwhelmed by this. But the support I've received from the Temple as been amazing.

I'll be thinking of you and including you in my meditations, including tomorrow at 1PM. Stay positive and take one day at a time. This will all be behind you before you know it!

Senan wrote: I have a surgically installed IV port in my chest used for chemo treatments, so if you have any questions, I might be able to answer some of them. The procedure was pretty painless and it healed quickly. I don't even notice the port anymore, and it has been way better than getting stuck in the arm with a needle for every chemo treatment.

That's the sort we're doing tomorrow. It's not how I was intending to become a cyborg, but as you say: Sounds way better than the alternative.
Thank you!

Thank you!
  That's awesome! I often joke about replacing all of my parts one by one until it is impossible to have cancer, but apparently that would be "too expensive" according to my insurance company.

If you ever want any pro tips about chemo, I have plenty of experience to share. For starters, always keep hard candy, mints, or gum with you.

I finished chemo. It was no fun, but no one expected it to be fun.
I had surgery. That was also no fun, but they tell me that my surgery went as well as could possibly be hoped for.
I started radiation treatment. As you might guess by now, that's also not fun, but it's so much easier than chemo that it's hard to argue.
*
I continued training martial arts throughout chemo. I did take a couple of weeks off after surgery, but fewer than you might think. It's hard to tell if I'm really back to my old energy levels, but I've definitely recovered much of my old bounce.
There's some chance that after I'm done with radiation, they'll send me to some physical therapy because I'm whiny about not having exactly my full range of motion back yet.
And at some point in the future, there will be additional reconstructive surgery.
But for the time being, the worst of this adventure appears to be behind me. There's a lifetime of testing and preventative medications ahead of me, but I can handle that.
Thank you all for your well-wishing, energy, and support. Hopefully I'm back.

yay! Glad to have you back, and glad things have been working out health wise.
