I've been a fan of the EU for over a decade now since I first played Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 for the PC. I even created some of my own fan fiction back when I used to role play in AOL chat rooms.
Granted, not everything in the EU is well thought out and written but I find that a great deal of it has added a lot of dimension to Star Wars. Especially when dealing with the Jedi and the Sith.
Knights of the Old Republic really opened up many "philosophical doors" for me. I'm happy to have played it or it's very likely I wouldn't have come across the TOTJO.
