I'm ADHD. As is my brother. I don't like taking medication if I can avoid it. But I have on a rare occasion taken caffeine with the specific intent to be able to focus better on some very important tests. I haven't heard about using alcohol but I do get giddy when I have a glass or two. I'd say I'm more distracted on it. I've never done Marijuana before but I've been on pain killers. They make me silly too lol. I hear that ADHD people are affected by Marijuana oposite of how most other people are.
Why are you asking?

Not many are more ADDHD than me.
Alcohol, and marijuana dulls you but doesn't help you. Some people are helped by stimulants when they are young. Self medication is an illusion.
You are differently/unique (different is not a negative word) from most so you can't do what most do the way most people do them.
Embrace your uniqueness. Learn coping skills. Use your strengths. Enjoy your perspective on life, it from a different angle.
ADDHD is a gift that most people don't reocognise. Your are not most people. Find what works best for you and soar!
Have fun and be happy.

I'm exploring some habits I occasionally (pot), regularly(alchohol) and daily(caffiene) enjoy and a friend who has ADHD kids said he had read a lot books (he even gave me a few) concerning it and happened to mention those very habits as a form of self medication. I have adult ADHD so I thought I would ask around.

I drink alcohol and caffeine for pleasure.
ADDHD people have a tendency toward addiction resulting from self medication so be carefull.

This.
I definitely rely on caffeine to settle myself and focus but I dont use any other kind of drug intervention. And recently Ive discovered that caffeine paired with fat works brilliantly, so I do coffee with no sugar but heavy cream instead of milk. Im planning on experimenting with bullet proof coffee too at some point.
Beyond that Ive had great success with creating habits that keep me in a balanced state and tweaking my nutrition to ensure I don't over stimulate. Beyond that, I just accept that my brain operates the way it does and I work with it as is. I consider it part of my personality typing, I do not personally recognize ADD or ADHD as "abnormal" disorders.

alcohol makes the body stupid and the ego ginonormous
its very habbit forming and causes a hundred different medical issues
except for the conditions surrounding the lifestyle, heroin is better for your body (and your mind) than alcohol
which should not be misunderstood as a promotion of heroin

So...abstinence? Or is that extreme? A glass of wine here and there, but not beer everyday?

naaa. Just keep an eye on your consumption, but more importantly, your mindset when you decide to imbibe.
