This is actually old news. DARPA has already made robots that can be controlled remotely by chimpanzees by plugin into their brains. It just takes forever and a ton of money to get anything approved by the FDA ,but it will happen.

I don't think they've publish this study publicly, I just know someone who worked there ,but it was brain level interface. The only thing I could find was a video of a monkey controlling a robot arm with his mind.
