The other day I tried a new* stress release technique and it worked rather well so I thought I'd share it.

*by new, I mean new to me. I can't quite put my finger on how it came to my mind but I highly doubt I came up with it all by my self.

First I had to think of the negative emotions in me (for me it was frustration, anxiety, and feeling under appreciated) as energy running through my body. Then I had to assign that energy a color, I chose red. Then I visualized the red energy flowing all through my body, into and out of all my limbs and my core. It helped to visualize it as lines with arrows showing direction and have them pulsing with the red light. Then I visualized it all traveling into one of my arms. Then when it was all in one arm I moved it down to just that hand. (two side notes. 1. I could actually feel the blood pumping in that arm more than any other part of my body. I don't know why, I might have just been more conscious of it, but it helped the process anyway. 2. Yes, this was in part inspired by Dragon Ball Z. I'm a nerd, deal with it. :P ) Once all that negative energy was in just that one hand I imagined forming a ball with it in the palm of that hand. Then I threw it as hard as I could. I felt a lot better.

Now I understand that there are lots of explanations for why this helped that aren't related to literally throwing negative energy out the palm of my hand^ but it helped so I'm good with it.

^some possible explanations could be:
  • This process caused me to slow down and breathe in a meditation like manner
  • I was concentrating on things other than the things that made me mad
  • It took a little while and gave a similar reaction as stopping and counting to ten
