Treat them like we would any other person we meet. Give them respect and listen and don't pass judgement about them based on what we think they are like...

Well I blue that pretty bad.

My point of "Who says?" Is there are as many opinious of what Sith and Jedi are as there are people that say they are. We sometimes hang onto definitions a little too hard when they are just opinions and opinions can change with the wind.

Sorry about the language thing MCSH. You write well enough to fool me.

lol Rickie, It's not your fault, and to be honest, I'm proud that my native language is Persian, it show the background I have, that I came from the nation who ruled over half of the world and bring justice to them... :-)

Ah...

lol, well, as was said, I said it...

But, if you read my stuff, and get to know me...

I am always expressing opinions that can be wrong, and subject to change with a good conversation....

Really, when anyone speaks, they are expressing an opinion...;)

So far, the only real truth I have found is I exist...

Everything else is subject to debate......

I actually used to have a disclaimer in my sig, something about "all the opinions and views expressed by the above person (Jestor) are opinion... And with intelligent conversation, and enough thought, are subject to change"

On walk-about...

Jedi ain't Saints....

Perhaps someone can clarify this sith thing? I watched the star wars movies but didn't read the books so I don't know all of the fiction behind it. When I hear sith I just think of red face-paint and double-light-sabers and the bitches of the dark lord, lol.

Then when you come to TOTJO they say that the sith are basically selfish people... so basically 90% of Americans are sith; they place individual material gain above all else and pray at the altar of the bank teller.

Then when you listen to the users here who claim to be sith they are basically people who feel guilty about something in the past or are trying to rationalize going against their own conscience...

I don't care about money and I don't feel guilty about anything, check mate :p
From what I've learned from lurking here is that no two Sith will have the same Sithynes so just ctrl+alt+delete any and all preconceived notions of Sithness you may have gained from movies or dodgy sites, get out there, meet some Sith and judge them based on them....or ask William. :p

Whyte Horse, I don't know the fiction either. I don't intend on ever learning it... besides the new films of course

The real Jedi have adapted the teachings of the fiction to be applicable in the real world. The real Sith have adapted the teachings of the fiction to be applicable in the real world.

Some people have differences of opinion about these adaptations. but on the whole there are similar themes

At TotJO we are influenced by the fiction but I have found in my time here that we are the least fiction orientated part of the community. We take a lot more from the 'real world' including taking heavily from the very things that Star Wars itself was influenced by

But there is much more to being a Sith than being selfish just as there is more to being a Jedi than being selfless. As to whether those people fulfil your expectations of what you think they are well I can't vouch for that

As it was explained to me and how I kind of take it is that
We seek power and the attainment of our passions, we follow our own moral code that each us as an individual (individualism seems a big deal with Sith) writes for ourselves.
As I kind of, maybe sorta, understand it, being Sith can't be truly taught, only learned.

Hopefully I'm not TOO off course with that and look like an idiot :p

So, as a martial artist, I had a school I taught at...

Now, there are many schools in town, but, lets say there were two...

One taught by a white american, and another taught by an asian... (american asian, or whatever)...

Where would you prefer to learn?

Of course, initially, you might think the asian... But you should look at his training lineage, shouldnt you?

And, if his teacher was the white guy, then maybe go to the source of the ttraining...

Same for us...

We love Star Wars and the movies, and the mythology...

However, we are looking for a purer source of the knowledge...

Lucas brought it into our lives, but where did he get it? Little bit from Campbell, sure, but there was knowledge before that, right?

And on and on...

At a certain point, we take for granted the knowledge passed to us, from those before us...

And, once we get to the point where we cant go back any further, we start looking in ever expanding circles for more info...

This is why we have left the fiction...

We are started following the knowledge back up the pipe...

Whereas some are happy with the fiction, and see no reason to question it...

(Ooo, like Christians?, lol, just playing...)

I can't remember where I saw it, maybe in the forums. It says that sith follow the easy path seeking power etc rather than helping others or something like that.

I have watched this thread grow over the last few days and there is one point that seems to elude me…

During the summer when it is 110° F and the sun is bearing down on everything, scorching the Earth to a crisp… White Oak, Live Oak, Cottonwood or Pine… as long as the tree produces shade to be had; I don’t care what it’s called.

It's still a tree. ;)
