TotJO 2017 Climate Survey Launch

28 Dec 2017 17:05 #310084 by Kit
Hello folks!

I would like to start a new annual survey that will help us gather information to benefit our community. The survey involves general questions about our programs and leadership. It is anonymous unless you announce yourself in a comment. Responses are viewable to all but I will make a report after a two-week closeout period.

This survey should only take about 15-30 minutes, 53 questions long but most questions aren't required and may not all apply to you. There are several write-in questions if you wish to expand on your answers, offer your views, or even give a pat on the back to a group or individual. Survey answers are available for viewing when the form is submitted. I'm not sure if you can see it if you don't.

Please be sincere in your answers. This will help highlight areas that we need to work on or that we're doing well in. Survey will close out on Friday 12 Jan, preliminary data will be compiled and available by 15 Jan, and by 1 Mar, I hope to have some ideas and responses from the individual teams about goals for the coming year.

Thank you all for your time and effort in this! Please let me know if you see an issue with the survey

Thank you for the bump Kyrin!!

We've had 20 responses so far. Keep them coming folks!

For those that have contributed so far, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. There have been some interesting results and ideas from them already, but I'm waiting for closeout to really dive into the information. And there's been a lot of it. It's all been very very constructive and sincere. I know time and energy are precious and you've spent that here in the survey. We absolutely will be able to use this to make beneficial changes.

Thank you again! And for the rest of you, if you get some quiet time before 12 Jan, I would really welcome your feedback!

Thank you Zenchi! I was trying to figure out how to link that without giving out rights.

Yup, there's a lot of places we're going to need to do some serious reflections on. I've been forming a few ideas and thoughts on the results so far. But what I think I'm going to do is once the polls close, I'll compile these in the different sections, hand them out to the groups they pertain to with a few of my thoughts, and let them sift through them. Each will come up with goals and plans to meet them (if needed) and then post to the community what those goals and plans are.

Some stuff is an easy fix, minor adjustments. Others may take a very long time to meet. But I'm positive that we can start moving.

I've been really pleased with the number of responses and the quality of them. We'll make this a yearly thing and I will do a better job at getting with everyone to make sure we get some valuable questions asked.

Keep 'em coming if you haven't taken it already!

I noticed Knights are the ones who have taken this mostly....we REALLY need more voices in the lower ranks to say their words.

I dunno, that in itself is data.

Interesting that "mostly knights taken it" but the vibe of "knight shout outs" are negative, and claim they don't participate enough.

What a curious thing.

Hmmm... Not quite, actually. Yes, Knights are the largest single responding rank, however you have to look at the picture as a whole and can't look at any single one point of data.

Apprentices - 10
Initiates - 2
Novices - 2
Members - 3
Guests - 2
Total - 19

Knights - 12
Sr Knights - 2
Master Knights - 1
Total - 15

Declined to State - 7
---- I have my theory as to why so many people wouldn't want to say what their rank is.

So, James, your comment about most of the responses being knights and the overall vibe of the knights:
Total of commentary on the knights - 24 Responses
Assuming (yes shame on me) that only non-knights are commenting on the knights, that leaves 5 unknown ranks, which could easily come from the decline to respond ;)

Not to discourage the initial comment of more lower ranks responding! Definitely should respond!

So in a hospital setting, or at least at my local one we do employee survey's once a year kind of like this one through press ganey, and one of the things they do is after the collection period is over(~1 month) they analyze it for a month and put out reports, and then the hospital reviews the reports at the different department heads, comes up with plans to address issues and then 3 months total of work down the road releases a sort of "roadmap" ish for how they will address problems going forward for the next year, it works fairly well since most of it is anonymous reporting, this would be a neat thing to also do with this survey is not just see what it is but have departments show acknowledgement, and a plan for working to improve as well after awhile. just a thought.

I hope most of the department heads have a plan to utilize the data like that. I can only speak for the Clergy, but we absolutely do.

Sooo....exactly what I suggested we'd be doing? hehe

I'm glad to hear other workcenters do it too. We do this in the Air Force which is where I got the idea from. Thought it'd be good to see how things stand here too!

Are you planning on releasing an open link in a page like this every quarter or so? Like Avalon noted, the results were pretty knight-heavy. As a methodology idea, maybe pm random profiles instructions and the link to get a bigger and more randomized survey population.
Thank you for putting this together!

like doing more of these kinds of surveys every quarter? I'm not sure things move fast enough around here to warrant that :) I'd be worried that folks would get too tired of taking them and stop.

I don't think I have the time to PM people individually but if you (or anyone) wanted to volunteer you're welcome to :) the survey is open until 12 Jan!

You're welcome! It's really been eye-opening

We've had a few more replies come in in the last few days so we're up to 47 now! Can I get a round-out to 50?! ;)

Survey is still open until the 12th!
